Funny thing about South Park’s brand of satire is everyone projects their own social and political feelings onto it. Yeah the right wing culture warriors who don’t realize it’s mocking their hysterical reactions to modern media are wrong, but so are the people reflexively thinking that is all the special is satirizing or critiquing. Matt and Trey absolutely think the cynical micro managed media being parodied IS lame and bad, but they also think the hyper reactionary whining about it is as well.

I’ve never viewed it as bothsidesism, but rather just honest observations about culture and society generally. Sometimes there’s an absurdity across the board worth pointing out. Their comedy is never prescriptive, but it’s hardly apathetic either.
