I'm no history or economics major but I'm sure it's more of that the Southern economy backbone was the slave labor that it wanted to hold onto, and once the Union (North) decided that slavery was a problem the South was willing to go to war over it because it was the very thing holding up their production

If all of their production fell through, they'd lose a lot of power in manafacturing/cotton etc and so on and so forth

So they went to war.

And lost.

And now they still fly confederate flags.

Where in my post does it say that confederate flags are only limited to the South? I live in New Jersey and I went to high school with people who still think the confederacy is live and they flew those flags. If they're here (in a democratic area, mind you), then they're not only limited to the South..

The south also has a lot of strong black history that goes along with it too.
