The other Holland ones are even more flatly directed and visually stale. None of the supporting cast in the previous films come into their own until this one. Zendaya is basically a boring zombie in the previous films. In this she’s actually likable and her chemistry with Holland is felt. The obnoxious quirky detached humor is still here but it’s reduced somewhat allowing for more time where the emotions of the drama can actually sit with you. Yes Garfield and Tobe bring something to this that it wouldn’t have without them but that doesn’t mean anything. Their contributions flesh out the cast more and their banter with Holland is some of the most fun writing in the entire MCU. They serve important roles for Holland’s development and help him fully become the Spider-Man character he is at the end of the film alone no longer relying on anyone and ready to take his responsibilities seriously. It’s like saying Dark Knight would be worse without the Joker. I’m not gonna pretend there’s not fan service and emotional manipulation but the other MCU films are guilty of that too, they just rely on fan service already built into their universe. There’s not much of a difference with this.

i agree w you on the zendaya part, her dead-pan delivery that lasted TWO movies was so pointless (I think it was meant to be funny somehow?? lol) she felt more human in this one for once
