I was eating mashed potato next to my laptop and because it was from the fridge there was some liquid around the container. So some of it sprinkled onto the keyboard and I wiped it off immediately. At first, it kept opening the chrome help webpage but then it started randomly typing in the backstroke button “/“ and now it won’t stop.

Should I open up the back and wipe it down with 99% alcohol or is it done for?

I had something similar before and it was only fixed by replacing the entire keyboard, which wasn't expensive.

OP, if I was you, I would've turned it off immediately

Ok I’ll look into this. I think the warranty may still be active too

I know that now and I feel like such an idiot 😔 but it was such a small amount that I didn’t think it was a big deal

if you have warranty yeah don't, if you don't have, opening it and cleaning the keyboard sensors could do the trick, but ofc this only if you know how to open it

Unplug it, remove the battery, open her up and clean it out with a vacuum or an effective towel

May I please ask, how long did it take for the repair/replacement to be done? Cos someone just told me it would take a month and I feel like that’s too long...

It took like 2-3 hrs to replace the keyboard, my brother helped me since he is good with electronics etc... But the keyboard replacement took 5 days to arrive.

1 month is way too long, I don't know what laptop make or brand you have but it is still unreasonable.

Damn, my problem is I don’t know how to do it myself and I don’t know anyone who can...

I think the store would take long cos of backlog or something

try having a look at a disassembly video for your laptop model, it could be easy to do it if you have screwdrivers.
