Bring back the ability to add just the songs you like from an album like Apple Music

You mean individually saving songs from an album to your library/favs/playlists?

    You can always do that

    SoundCloud had DMs too

This is actually really dope for anyone with any semblance of having a social life still while still being really into music

Also, although not relevant to most, opens up a lot of networking possibilities too

soundcloud still has dms. recently, you can finally dm on the app. took a couple years

    PAINMAN

they should make a version of spotify that only lets you play music and is like $5

no books, podcasts, videos, followers and dms, merch, spamming with concert notifications

I’d pay more than the regular price

  • Aug 26, 2025

I wish am would see the potential and create an iPod or iTunes like AM.

    Just music.

yeah I used spotify for many years and remained disappointed, first on the UI, second on the lack of features and also music compared to youtube

now I just find it funny how they try to stay afloat and relevant while they face allegations towards a CEO that invests your money in AI weaponry while they pay their artists 0.000015$ for stream

But apparently DMs on a music app is unprecedented and not wanted, even tho half the point of music is the communal and sharing/reccs aspect 💀

Oh s***! You like Coheed and Cambria Drummer Josh Eppard’s rap side project? Could I pay you to s*** on my chest?

    Again, pancakes and waffles

No one thinks the weirdo CEO is a good guy nor does anyone think streaming payouts is good which isn't just a Spotify thing

They're all pretty much the same outside of one feature, & imo Spotify UI is better than Apple Music or Tidal's to me

But yeah, YouTube Music is the best overall to me as well I've been saying this since Google Play (rip the true goat)

Faxx lmao they're also some weirdos

And as I, someone that does their own music, and also does production and engineering for others, all of these services treat and pay us like dogshit

Streaming is a non factor in terms of revenue, it's seen (and we're forced to look at it as) as "just marketing" while shows and merch is how you actually make money

No one should make a decision on what service to use based on the minimum difference of the fraction of a penny they all pay us that won't even cash out to you until you hit a "minimum" bullshit threshold or else it's withheld from you and paid like once a month - none of them care about us, including apple

It’s not pancakes and waffles though

It’s getting egg beaters when all the competitors are using real eggs, and instead of upgrading the quality of the egg, they say hey you can now send messages to the other tables.

And let’s be real here in a few months we’re just going to get a bunch of automated messages from artists we listen to telling us to buy s***

It is to me because one has literally nothing to do with the other nor impacts each other in any way

They're also already doing that to you in app notifs and emails, but now you can also use it

And Spotify probably isn't doing Loseless because they're a market leader and by a huge margin in both USA and worldwide, thus they don't need features they don't deem fit to attract niches or appeal, which they probably don't care about true loseless audio since the average person doesn't care about (or understand) it nor can even properly use it while it'll cost a lot of money and server space which doesn't work for Spotify who is trying to penny pinch any and everyway they can this decade for whatever reason even tho they're the major market leader

Spotify doesn't care and will only do feature at the moment they seem easy, mainstream accessible & cheap costing - unfortunately

The same idiots itt would suck Apple's d*** if they did it for AM

Truthfully, I think there would be similar sentiments tbh

At the end of the day you’re picking from two big corporations like choosing a coke or Pepsi, it’s just personal preference sometimes

imo by and large Apple Music is superior in most ways except for play-listing supposedly, and then seamless last.fm integration Spotify wins obvi so idk, but AM for android was better than Spotify when I had both…

  • Aug 26, 2025

Spotify has every gimmick under the sun it's actually unreal when you think about it. AI DJ's, song blending, podcasts on the front page, DM's etc.

Probably the polar opposite of what i assume most users on here want a streaming service to be

Apple Music had Apple Music connect briefly before shutting it down in 2017 and that felt nowhere near as counterintuitive as this

I want to be able to add notes to saved albums to remind myself why I wanted to listen to this album.

And to put saved albums into categories / spaces. My saved library is a mess.

    We have folders now

But I think you can only do them on PC though they move to mobile

But if they keep spending money on adding features we don’t want in a way it does go against adding features we do want because they’re going to use a finite amount of resources towards adding more features.

And yeah I get it, I’ve been wanting them to add lossless for years and I’ve stayed with them for all these other reasons. But they keep actively making the service worse and I’m basically at my tipping point. I’ll have Apple Music for free in October so I’m bout ready to switch.

I agree, but I also think the features "we" want is more niche than most realize - only hardcore music people really care, while the more average person can easily and happily understand and use like the DM feature that is new and "cool" to them.

Streaming services especially Spotify does not have to cater to the hardcore music fan for some years now, they are fully in with the general person and playlists are literal new "radio" with how the average person listens to most music - we are just not a priority or concern to Spotify and others anymore.

I like Spotify's UI over Apple but I mainly use YouTube Music personally anyways - and the only recent addition to Spotify I think is genuinely cool is the upcoming mixer feature you can do yourself that will be cool for themed playlists.

Overall tho it's a non factor to me, I mainly use YouTube Music (and use Spotify for a few specific things here and there) and I'm not confused on the current goals of Spotify and others - it sucks but it's reality and part of the negative of massive mainstream tech, they are more worried about coasting and cutting costs at any means instead of being interesting, innovating or experimental once they teach a certain popularity and mass level. It happens every time.

Spotify thinks that people will stay and put up with all this crap they’re throwing at us because we’ve built our libraries up, been long time customers, and like our stupid end of year wrapped.

And they’re right, for now. But I think we’re near the tipping point.
