i definitely agree it could have been better

i dislike the way many things are executed, but i disagree with the opinion that TLJ made the trilogy bad

i think the force awakens put it in such a bad place that rian kind of had to try and do something besides just make the empire strikes back again, the way the force awakens sets up

people blame rian for mishandling luke but i listened to rian’s logic about it. he thought luke wouldn’t have been hiding if there wasn’t some darker reason

really the reason was that jj “didn’t know what to do with him” his words.. besides turn him into yoda in empire. jj is an unoriginal writer.. he’s a good director but never should write

overall the entire trilogy is too meta, obsessed with the past of star wars instead of a good story

tlj in that respect is very similar to the other two jj movies, they’re trying to tell you what they think made the original trilogy great and what could’ve been different in rian’s case instead of trying to create anything original

yeah agreed disney and lucasfilm pushing for a movie every year instead of giving the trilogy to one writing team with a singular clear vision.. and letting there be 3-4 years between each was the biggest issue, the whole thing was a mad dash to get as much money as possible

And then the trilogy could have been built on even further after TLJ but they ran right back to JJ who dismantled everything all over again.

Terrible handling.

i probably would have never loved the sequels like 1-6 or the clone wars after the 7 & 8 we got but if 9 was coherent with the themes/story established before it the trilogy could at least have been a solid rewatch

I agree but I do think the angle that he took with Luke was the worst possible explanation. It felt like he wanted to add depth to Luke's character but just ended up retreading the lessons he already learned in the original trilogy which made him seem really incompetent. I remember that JJ actually wanted to end the film with Luke meditating with floating rocks but rian requested that he remove it because he wanted to do the "Cut off from the force" plotline. The whole idea of Luke being a hermit was actually George Lucas' idea but I feel like it needed to have a better reasoning. So personally, I do think Rian definitely deserves some blame but ultimately it's on the shoulders of Disney. As much as the flaws that exist in the prequels, I do think people have grown on them and still look fondly on the story George was trying to create because it was original and a completely new direction from the original trilogy. I'm not sure if the sequels will ever get the same respect considering how unoriginal they are but time will tell I guess. We're already getting a Rey movie apparently so maybe it will redeem a lot of the flaws in these films, we'll see

I’m so hyped for this new episode. I hope it doesn’t disappoint.

They didn’t linger on the Anakin plot, didn’t use it to radically change Star Wars but instead to help Ahsoka grow. Then they kept moving forward and kept the plot going.

I'm guessing it was just a vision, not the real Anakin. Like a metaphorical battle for her to live. After choosing to live, she was found by the pilots
