okay okay okay what the f***?
God I remember going to see this opening night. Freshman year of college, I had tickets booked for the first 7pm IMAX showing for Thursday night. This was before assigned seating so I knew I had to be there early. I had my last final that day and one of my friends who went to state was already done so he and a couple of other buddies of our were going to see it. He gets there around 12pm just to see the line and people were already lined up. So I get out of my final at like 1, see a text form my friend and rush over to the theater. My ass was not sitting in the front row. So I get there at like 1:45 and the line is already kind of deep.
I spend the next 4 hours in line catching up with friends who went to school farther away, talking with new people about the movie and theories they have. A great time overall. We get let in to the theater around 6:15, and the feeling in there is electric all the way until the previews end. We're about to see the first new Star Wars movie in a decade. The minute "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" popped up on screen, the intensity was at an all time high. The first note of John Williams' score hit, the crowd erupted, and the rest was history.
If I can take anything away from this movie coming out, it is that. The communal feeling of the theatrical experience. Being around friends and other people all excited to see a movie and talking with new people about your shared love for something. I kind of miss that now. The theatrical experience has changed in exchange for convenience. It's not inherently a bad thing, it's just something I treasured.
It was definitely biting the beats of A New Hope, but it was still an enjoyable movie. It's a shame that the rest of the movies in this trilogy were some dogshit.
I could at least respect The Last Jedi attempting to change things up even if I didn't like it. But them going back on it just to give us some complete fanservice s*** in The Rise of Skywalker made me hate both those movies even more.
all the misdirect about him becoming a jedi, intense anti-Black backlash about his casting, watching his spine get mutilated.. jus for finn to never get a worthwhile arc
so much wasted potential

How they fired off the sequel trilogy without sitting in a room and just mapping out the f***ing story first is baffling

So much potential with the ex-stormtrooper angle and they turned the dude into comic relief in about 5 minutes
i hated star wars at that time and i remember invading random instagrams of ppl spoiling the film

The fact that it's biting the beats of A New Hope is waaaaay less of a problem than it being a generic JJ Abrams "the plot never slows down cause we keep running to a new location" blockbuster

I liked the last Jedi for trying to be different but it’s f***ing amazing how rise of skywalker completely poisoned the watch experience.
The only comparison I can really think of is like game of thrones

Literally could’ve just had two Jedi in training, but nah he’s gotta do less and less each film

Like for all the things about TLJ I wasn't a fan of, I will still appreciate them for doing something different as a means of saying "Fuck you" to fans who were still stuck in the past.
Like I wasn't mad because "They're changing Star Wars!" I just feel like the changes weren't gonna make for a good story. But I was gonna give it a chance because maybe it was gonna pay off in Episode 9. Unfortunately, the whiny and racist ass Star Wars fans ruined any chance of that

Disney hubris and greed. They knew they could just phone it in cause they were gonna be making a ton of money regardless. And unfortunately they were right smh

literally. like even if he's not jedi, they could've went further with him being force sensitive. maybe undergoes training to end up an ultra decked out resistance leader on some saw gerrera or jet pack mandalorian s***.
instead he's just chasing after rey for 3 movies and leads a few charges in virtually the same fit

i'll never understand disney buying this IP and not planning out the trilogy in advance

Massive L not having them both as Jedi. Would’ve been so much better imo
