Why is there no thread for stardew? game is a mf classic.

1.6 out now! cant believe it’s been 4 years since the last update

    Patch notes: stardewvalley.net/stardew-valley-1-6-update-full-changelog

One of the biggest additions arriving in Stardew Valley with 1.6 is the Meadowlands Farm. This is the eighth farm map to come to the game, and it stands as unique. Unlike the other farm types you can choose from, the Meadowlands Farm gives you two chickens and one coop for free. You start with the animals and their respective building and can bypass having to purchase them from Marnie and Robin. This farm map also stands out with its special blue grass, a scrumptious snack that your animals are sure to love.

There are two new "mini" fishing festivals following the arrival of 1.6 that will test your angling skills. These include the Trout Derby and the SquidFest. Unlike the Desert Festival and other bigger, more community-based festivals, these mini-festivals have to do with fishing and are more akin to the smaller Fishing Contest that takes place during the seasonal Festival of Ice.

You can now grow four new normal crops, including broccoli, carrots, powdermelon, and summer squash. These cannot be purchased from Pierre at the store, however. You'll also find that 1.6 adds two new giant crops, which yield double the amount of produce that normal crop variants do. These special versions will remain on your farm until you harvest them with an axe, regardless of the in-game seasons changing.

The 1.6 update is all about customizing your space to your liking. There are four new home renovations to aim for, including an attic, a cubby, a dining room, and an expanded corner room. There are also a whopping 280 new furnishing items to choose from, along with 41 new floor styles and 24 new wallpaper styles. To make decorating a bit easier with all of these choices, the update brings unique furniture catalogs that contain specific sets organized by theme.

The Desert Festival is a massive new in-game event spanning three whole days. You can only access the Desert Festival after you've repaired the bus to travel from Stardew Valley to the Calico Desert, which means you’ll first need to save up some gold. If you're going the Community Center route, you'll need to purchase all of the Vault Bundles which will cost you 43,500 gold in total. If you're going down the Joja Corporation path, you'll have to buy the Joja Community Development Form for 40,000 gold.

Animal lovers, rejoice. Stardew Valley now offers the ability to house multiple pets rather than just one. There are also two new cat and dog breeds, as well as one special entirely new pet type: the turtle. The in-game menu now harbors a handy animal menu that you can use to check on all of your animals, including your pets. The update brings new interactive pet items, too, including an adorable pet bowl that you can build and later move via Robin at her Carpenter Shop. Perhaps most importantly though, 1.6 lets you place hats atop your cats and dogs.

If you've maxed out all your skills or are looking for a new way to flex your in-game abilities, you'll be thrilled to learn that Stardew Valley now has what ConcernedApe calls a “mastery” system. You can access this feature via a new 1.6 area where you’ll obtain powerful perks as well as special items.

Books encompass a major part of the 1.6 update. There are 19 new unique Books of Power, which will grant you special perks, and Skill Books, which will grant you experience in certain skills. You may also come across the Book of Stars, which will graciously grant you experience in every single skill rather than just one. A bookseller will also travel to Stardew Valley twice a season for all of your book-buying needs.

honestly now is the best time to get into it, the endgame has been expanded greatly, a huge amount of quality of life features have been added, and for a new player there’s like at least 200 hours of content.

I almost wonder if it seems overwhelming now to someone who hasn't played on day 1

Actually playing it the first time isnt overwhelming at all, it does a great job of getting you set up to enjoy it (I'd just bookmark the wiki at the start lol) but these days it's like 4x as massive, at least, and there's an insane amount of stuff to do now lol
