All these games were inspired by Skyrim your idea of innovation is just biting Bethesda and then Bethesda releases a game and you’re like “it didn’t innovate like all these games that bit Bethesda”

Also you haven’t played the game

88/100 average score is in no way a flop

it isn't a flop and it will be successful but for bethesda people expect 90+

Fallout 4 got an 85 on metacritic and there were 0 shambles back then and people enjoyed it and it was a success

    What happened to gaming

  • Aug 31, 2023

i still kinda don’t get the gun play complaints of FO4. probably just cause i don’t play much these days but for how often it’s complained about you’d think it was literally god awful

They didn’t just “bite” Skyrim (how in the f*** did Disco Elysium, Pillars and Divinity bite Skyrim btw?), I’m assuming you’re referring to mostly BotW, which sure, they’ve stated they were influenced by Skyrim, but they also did something incredibly unique with the formula that elevated it to the classic it is today.

What I’m saying is, a relatively standard Bethesda title in 2023 with mostly an aesthetic shift is probably not gonna set the critical world on fire as it once did.

Back then when they dropped Fallout 4, the two premiere AAA RPG studios were still basically BioWare and Bethesda, who dominated the 2000s (and funny enough dropped two of their most polarizing games in 2014), but since then we’ve gotten the rise of Larian, CDPR, Obsidian finally hitting their stride, and even Owlcat Games (Pathfinder).

Mechanically and/or narratively speaking, major RPG HITS have gotten more complex since those days.
