Just facts, if Microsoft had Nintendo market share and multiple exclusives that were guaranteed to sell 20mil and up they wouldn't give people s***. Since they were losing in traditional competition against the big two they took a non-traditional approach with gamepass, which is a long-term investment but helps regain goodwill with the consumer.

Gamepass or something like it has been made ea, Ubisoft , Microsoft Sony Nintendo . It’s more than just sales it’s guaranteed revenue . They all have subscription plan levels that come with classic or current games or both . It also helps get people in for potential dlc and micro transactions.

Your logic partially makes no sense because free to play games are booming and make crazy money . You could charge someone for Fortnite. Overwatch feels like it did better when we did have to pay .

I don’t understand being made at gamepass especially if it’s less to Sony creating a competitor that has given us great games that we may never want to pay 60-70$ for in a recession

But again the halo 4, halo 5, gears 4,5 sold copies . Did they decrease in quality in some cases YES but to act like Xbox one era they didn’t have some first party games with huge sales that they could keep off gamepass and still sell is odd. Forza horizon and forza games sell well

Nintendo works like that by
1. Never coming to pc or other consoles on first party games
2. Rarely if ever lowering game prices
3. Not really letting others mess with their ip which includes tournaments and sometimes streaming
4. Dated hardware that makes them a profit AT LAUNCH. While Microsoft and Sony both often have to take a loss with each console sold to build an INSTALL BASE. Historically as in Xbox one and series x s I am pretty sure Microsoft sold at more of a loss than Sony exactly how much I would have to check
5. Install base the reason I mentioned that is because gamepass helps build a consistent install base of people you know will have the same game or console
6. Sony not being backwards compatible accessory or game wise with 1,2,3 and some 4 games helps so at times we have to rebuy them , stream them or get a remake or remaster versus just put in a disc
7. Sony install base grew greatly after Microsoft drm bullshit and many exclusive deals of being the best place to play or in many cases only place to play . Call of duty , street fighter and destiny deals are 3 major franchises that retain yearly players, micro transactions and more
