I’m getting more Fallout 4 in space tbh.

I mean, let’s be frank here, almost all of those elements were pretty shallow in Skyrim.
We’re in a post Witcher 3, Divinity, Disco Elysium, and now Baldur’s Gate 3, world.
Not only that, but with games like RDR2 and BOTW/TOTK even open world gaming expectations have changed. The best open world games nowadays are systems based, logic based, physics based. Raw landmass alone doesn’t count for too much anymore.
I guess it remains to be seen if Bethesda has evolved their formula to compete with that, because hoarding sandwiches doesn’t really have the same charm to it, especially when you got all the wild s*** you can do with random objects in Larian titles.
Starfield is 140gb on pc
this and james blake dropping same week listening to james while exploring the Milky Way
One of the songs on James’ new album was actually made for the movie Ad Astra (but didn’t make the cut). While it remains to be seen whether said song has a sci-fi vibe, at least the album has kind of a connection to outer space
Did they touch on quest design or anything like that? That’s all I really care about (and writing quality, though my expectations aren’t exactly very high on that front).
Idk if they talked about quests in the Discord Q&A (have yet to read it all), but they did talk about it in an official video before.

dialogue system looks more like fallout 3 tho, compared to skyrim
Also fallout 4 had a better companion system and it seems like that’s what we’re getting here
Factions seem like they’ll work more like Skyrim tho, as in you won’t have to choose between them you can just do all the quests for all factions without them conflicting
Q:
What books or movies had a big influence on some of the quests?
A:
I’m a history nerd, so I actually listen to a lot of podcasts like Hardcore History and The History of Rome.
While our game is science fiction, I like how historians can tell you about how human beings react to extreme circumstances (like war, famine, and technological breakthroughs), and you can imagine how we’d react to similar circumstances in a fictional setting (just at a grander scale).
Well, I’m a child of the late 70s-early 80s, and I have very fond memories of the sci-fi of that time.
So, let me think...
Star Wars, OG Battlestar Galactica, Space: 1999, Buck Rogers, Battle Beyond the Stars, Ice Pirates... and let’s not forget the classic that is Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jaryd Syn. I think I actually saw that one in 3D.
But also much “headier” sci-fi stuff, like the writings of Arthur C. Clarke and Robert Heinlein, or films like Contact, Interstellar, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and even Event Horizon.
In all of those examples, you realize that outer space is two things: 1.) A source of mystery and wonder, sometimes terror AND 2.) A giant blank page on which you can write any story. And we have written a lot of VERY different stories in Starfield.
Man I cannot wait
Wait, all the factions can be done independently? Again?
Then what’s the point of there even being factions?
It’s the “I’m the leader of the Mage’s Guild despite only knowing a basic healing/fire spell” all over again.

Nah they say in the q&a no ranking up to leader in all these guilds like previous games

Is there any kind of conflict if you jump between factions? Any consequences?
They can’t be do another “Master of the Universe” game right?

I believe it was answered in the starfield direct but honestly I forget. All I know is this has no more max rank every faction you lead everything s***

Gonna be playing Starfield strictly in 1st-person on Series X with a headset on and in 3rd-person on Series S through TV speakers.
Finna be interesting to alternate between the two systems
Do you all like or dislike the whole silent protagonist thing?
Depends on the game.
RPGs, Half Life, Doom, GTA 3, visual novels, etc are great, but s*** got on my nerves in Far Cry 5
This game needs it. Fallout 4 protag speaking was ass, it limits convo choices

Interesting lol. I know most have mixed feelings about it and some love it and like you for some it depends on the game or game type. Personally I don't like it man I want my main character to talk lmao. Just seems weird all these characters talking to you and you just quiet, or get to just choose a dialogue option ha. I'm still gonna play this though.
