The only purpose of a watch to me is as a status symbol. And as with any status symbol, you either go big or you go home. I won't be buying a watch unless it's a Patek.

I also wouldn't wear anything other than leather strap but that's just my preference.

Status is definitely a chunk of it but for most its more for the fashion/art/engineering side of it. Ill be honest though, if i really liked a watch but it was only worth like 50 bucks i probably wouldnt wear it. So the appeal is more than just status but thats definitely a part of it
