trailers really undersold this film.
I was hooked from the start
The dance choreography is top notch, the singing, acting are all spot on.Spot on direction with mesmerizing performances, i really found myself singing along with a good majority of the songs.
I’m trying to think of flaws, perhaps some of the ADR felt a little off at times with the music but that’s just a nitpick.
Spielberg still really got it in him to be quite honest.
the trans representation felt very weird lmao like he’s wanting to be apart of a racist misogynistic transphobic white gang
My general rating would be

while films like Judas and the black messiah or that s***ty Sorkin movie just feel like an algorithm movie visually catered for their streaming service, here’s Spielberg reminding us of what a real movie looks like.

Think it’s a narrative issue with the story in general. The performances are solid for the most part, little off here or there ngl
The chemistry is there but it’s hard to buy the romance because it’s so sudden and unearned. Like these people don’t even know each other’s name properly and are in a obsessive love with each other

Just got out
Man this was incredible. Spielberg going ahead and proving once again why his is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. Rachel Zegler was great as Maria but Ariana DeBose stole the show as Anita.
The musical numbers were phenomenal, the performances across the board were great and Spielberg killed it.
Ansel was good but f*** him lmao
9/10

like its really really bad and its what made this movie a 3/5 for me

Word well the original is basically an updated Romeo and Juliet
