What did they do? I'm familiar with the old combos but have they simplified it?

Modern controls is weaker with special moves but you can do special moves very easily now and don't have to the crazy stuff. It will definitely take you up to rank gold, which if you are a brand new should still take you like 100h+ hours of gameplay tbh

Okay just sent you an invite, hopefully it works

really hope other major fighting games add this too. will really open up these games to people who aren't already into them

I’m sure you’ll be able to find pre owned copies within a week or two tbh
for sure there will be people that play this for an hour or two and get salty
dawg u definitely need to guard against throws more
but guile is a good character to use as a beginner u have the patterns down

Nah sometimes u did kick my ass lmao i hate playing against guile.
Btw guile lily and marisa are the easiest characters in this game

Oh man you were just rocking me with the throws and cross ups, I have many hours to go before nailing down the fundamentals
always appreciate playing against more experience players though
I was running guile and cammy for SFV so I’m already somewhat familiar with them, definitely want to get into some of the new characters though. I love Kimberly but tried manon today and she might be in tbh
unreal moveset

I had no idea about this! Is it like Smash levels of simplicity? I remember spending ages memorising Akuma's combos in IV lol

My tips would be that you get more comfortable with throwing when the opponent is standing idle next to you, also to press the throw button if the opponent grabs after you.
The basic gameplan with Guile is: spam the projectiles, which forces the other person to come closer, and then do the crazy kick
Given that you used classic controls it seems you had a good grasp on the inputs, you can try modern controls too if that's easier, i personally wanna see how far i can take the modern controls for now

for example, special plus left is a certian move, special plus right another move....similar to smash, yes.

I’m definitely interested by the implications that modern controls have on charge characters
seems like there’s definitely room to experiment there, once I’m more comfortable with the basics I’m gonna branch out and try them out
@BBLDRIZZY oh another tip, use your drive impact more (the green bar on the top). it doesn't carry over from round to round so you should be using it as much as you can. especially in the corners or as a reaction to the opponent's drive impact if you can react fast enough. also there's really no harm in using modern controls to get the mechanics down first, which i am doing (i was on modern if you noticed)

Oh sweet, that's a huge shift for accessibility, man I really want to try this
I've got very fond memories of playing SFII on SNES when I was a kid and my dad laughing at Blanka's weird sounds

i really appreciate it man, taking notes on all of this. I’m gonna stick with classic controls only because I’m gonna have to learn them anyways (from what I understand modern controls are helpful to get you started but cap your progress after a certain point).
But will definitely spend more time leaning fundamentals and BnB combos, I don’t have any great aspirations for how good I’m gonna become in this game but f*** it I’ll put in some work anyways
so much fun

i fought against 13 guiles, 29 manons and 37 cammys. there was a modern cammy who just kicked my ass an hour ago lmao
guile is the easiest to use out of those three and has the simplest gameplan
manon looks cool and has a great design to her but i personally couldn't deal with the grappling mechanic of hers too well when i was trying her out
you can try the new characters yeah, but overall, guile marisa and lily are the easiest
tier lists don't matter so much at our level

i am in silver 5 with modern controls. i'm not sure how far modern controls can go, with some characters, it neuters the movelist more than with others. i do think that if i just improve my fundamentals i can go to high gold or low platinum with modern controls eventually. you also can input certain moves the classic way even if you pressed modern
i played SFV for 120h btw i'm not an expert or anything either
i think playing modern gives you a good idea of how to move, react and how to deal with the drive impact mechanic and super arts.

That makes sense tbh, I feel like on a character-by-character basis and how familiar you are with them it could make sense to use classic with some and modern for others
And oh yeah not even attempting to be worried by tier lists
the fact that there are players better than I will ever become using “low tier” fighters speaks for itself, everyone is viable tbh
honestly good point with your second post, maybe I should be using modern to nail the fundamentals down
something to think about for sure. Appreciate you sharing all these tips bro
