I didn't read further as I was waiting for an explanation but ok then.... don't explain I guess? Lol

by using blatant intertexuality that sparks nostalgia in a way that is only rivaled by Disney

…the explanation is in the middle of the remark you were bothered by

“intertexuality” can be said about any song using a popular sample.

I found it funny you made it seem like Ye went through back alley music shops to find the insanely popular Daft Punk song then said Ex-Factor is an anthem like Drake picked any song out a top 5 list just to appease to the masses lol.

I did not make it seem like this in any part of the post. And I singled Drake using the sample out because the female empowerment message of the song is tied to that specific sample choice, so I didn’t have to mention intertexuality with the Daft Punk sample like I did with NFW. Samples always being examples of intertexuality does not refute this

And it ESPECIALLY had to be singled out in regards to NFW because it shows a contrast between Kanye and Drake - which I already cover. It’s a very simple thing and your bias is getting in the way of you understanding that

  • That rollercoaster at universal with all the old ass songs on it I always play stronger

stronger hasn't aged very well imo

To clear up the intertexuality thing just in case there’s any more confusion:

Samples are inherently intertexual. So are Quentin Tarantino film homages. Is the intertexuality of those homages singled out to make a point about Tarantino making the audience nostalgic? No because the homages are not for the audience

Is the intertexuality of Disney films singled out in this regard though? Yes because they are using intertexuality for the audience on some level. And given I made an entire point about the sample choices tying to Kanye and Drake’s cultural influences, Kanye is not using a Daft Punk sample for hiphop/r&b listeners to recognize. A contrast between the two samples being used

NFW using Ex Factor is not only going to be very nostalgic for hiphop/r&b listeners, but the sample is so closely related to the message of the song that the added use intertexuality HAS to be mentioned
