social media definitely stifled internet forums though
This place a lot better than IG and tiktok for actual discourse at least. And just looking at this thread and WDYWT a lot of people on here aren’t trend hopping like on other social media’s. Probably cause this forums average age higher than IG/tiktok so people know themselves more

Seriously think current posters might be the last generation to be posting on fashion forums. There’s been basically no new blood for like 5+ years.
Ig, tiktok and discord killed it. Shame to be honest, the nature of those mediums is that there’s basically no community and no history of anything beyond basic knowledge and facts. Even pages with good info are unbrowsable, cause of the lack of threads. Hidden.ny and other “archive” ig pages will never be able to truly replace forums, cause there’s absolutely zero discussion.
Edit: and that combined with the the viral nature of social media results in this weird bubble where all these “archive” pages (and their followers) are copying each other as soon as something gains a little bit of traction just to feed off each other’s clout.

so true
fashion sxn was at its best when it was cliquey. fluid vs raw era was insane. a lot of knowledgable individuals and big drippers were finding community and building off it. now its a decentralized mess of people who dont post fits talking lots of s***.
Im confused is it still not cliquey?

Discord especially has made it so you can discuss what you care about with a whitelist of people you want to discuss with…
Its sad that forums and imageboards are dead considering how they built everything we know of modern internet culture

Discord is great but
the bigger a community gets the less it works for discourse cause you gotta be active in the moment to catch the discussion. I’m in a couple but when I hop on after work I’ve missed a whole days of discussion and you can’t really bump a 8 hour hold convo. At least with message boards you can just browse and post when you feel like it

Eh there’s a lot of trend hopping here as well(how many members here have the same pieces?)
This is just a different “style tribe” so the trends will just be more unique to this community
