i think it's harder to tell that he's f***ing with shiv because he has a moment of vulnerability with her in regards to telling her about the half liter of blood stuff.

but ultimately he is gaslighting her--particularly when he tells her that she's like logan. logan would have used that story as a detonator and mattson knows it.

And yeah, comparing her to Logan is the easiest way to boost her ego and align her with you. Mattison is playing the brother's but they're still "winning" in terms of the finances. The way he could potentially be playing Shiv can imo have a way worse conclusion

Mattson is really a stand in for young ass (tech) billionaires. I think most will immediate think of elon's acquisition of twitter, along with an earlier reference with the seemingly flippant tweets that really were to drive up the market for his benefit ("feeling lucky" is similar to elon's "going private at 420"-- something elon said was a joke, but we all knew better).

Anyway, the point is you have ppl that are smart enough and talented enough to either build or often maintain the mass of wealth and power that they have, so it's not like they're complete dumbasses. But, because they’ve never known anything else, the empire, wealth and moves they make are almost just a game to them to satiate their own ego. And this drives them to do dumb s*** whether in private (like the blood thing) or in the business world when they start to move away from what they (supposedly) know (Elon, Twitter, Mattson, wayco).

Its weird reading reactions like mattson is some genius negotiator, or if logan would have been more successful or not. The deal is a game to mattson, as highlighted by rome when he goes off. He's hard to negotiate with because I don’t think he cares about whether the deal happens at all. he knows royco needs the deal, so he can push and pull as much as he wants and enjoys that. He has worked every member of the family so far. At this point, he's put the brothers in the hard position of denying a good deal and being humiliated by everyone they know, or having them succumb to the deal, and feeling humiliated that they did so. Whatever happens, he 'wins' against the egos of the brothers, and that is all he cares about. The money he makes or loses doesn't matter because that was never the point of it.
