Beyonce lightens her skin though...
Rihanna did it for a small period when she first blew up too
There was a period for Beyoncé... I wanna say between 09-12, where she was trying to white pass imho. She had a lot of ads where she looked like a white woman

facts.
thats why i think calling out the Kardashians and even Ariana Grande (the examples i mainly see used) about darkening their skin isnt fair
theyre using makeup to darken/tan (whatever word you want to use) whereas most of our famous black/mixed female celebs go and bleach their own skin all the time
Lil Kim, Nick Minaj, Keri Hilson etc. did it too
no idea why they do it, but its their own choice i guess.
she still cute af without makeup
anyway yeah i get what summer is saying, it’s prevalent in the industry and it’s sadly kinda inverse where people with darker skin making it look lighter and light-midtone skin being the most accepted which is a pretty much the whole western beauty standard

"no idea why they do it"
Then don't speak on it because everything you wrote before that, gave away that you don't have a clue.
been known Kendall the best
shes not even calling them out for "trying to be black" shes basically jsut saying everybody wants what they dont have

well i know the reason 'why' they do it.... its because generally lighter skinned women are 'pushed' more in the industry- beyonces dad actually talked about this sort of thing years ago
what i was getting at was the fact theyre talented enough that they dont need to do it

and just because someone doesnt know the 100% ins and outs of every little detail it doesnt mean they shouldnt comment on something that obviously happens, and is problematic

Cool.
You saying "white artists tanning is the same as black artist lightenin their skin" (I paraphrased) is what made me believe you have no clue what you're talking about.
Summer was getting at a bigger point of the societal pressures women of all creed go through for the sake of beauty, and to a human point of “the grass is always greener” perspective.
Cool.

ah, well i didnt mean exactly the same. The reasoning behind them doing it is different (in my opinion atleast- the black artists are doing it to be publicized more by the media/execs, whereas the white ones are doing it because they feel they look better/to attract a larger fanbase)
I just dont like the way certain people like the kardashians and ariana are called out for it all the time- but the Beyonces of this world never are, because its all f***ed up regardless of who is doing it
so you gonna post a pic of you at 12 vs. you now or we gonna keep pretending people don’t look different when they get older

Beyonce got called out plenty
All black artists get called out for lightening their skin :bronwhat
The thing with beyonce etc is they're not gonna get flamed for something they aren't doing anymore... Ie:lil kim still gets joked on
The Kardashians are still stealing from black creators and "tanning" (actual clothing designs have been stolen from black female designers )
I think that's why they're still in the hotseat today
