Battinson aside, it was really nice to see Zlatko in this lol
My GOAT Milo iykyk
Decent time at the cinema. The movie was carried by its performances. Corenswet, Brosnahan, Hoult, Gathegi, and Fillion were all great. Charisma through the roof. The Clark and Lois scenes were a particular highlight.

Unfortunately, I think I’m just out on James Gunn at this point, at least as a director. He toned it down more than I expected–this was in fact James Gunn’s SUPERMAN rather than JAMES GUNN’s Superman. The movie, for the most part, is just really ugly. Someone please take the wide angle close ups away from Gunn. Someone please take away the color orange. It started to piss me off so much sitting in the theater that I began to wonder if Gunn is just a great screenwriter and hack director.
As far as the plot, it’s fine. I don’t really understand Superman’s arc in the film. I mean, there was an arc, and I understand the basic plot points of it, it’s just such a small arc that I’m not sure anything about him materially changed from beginning to end. Everything gets a little by-the-numbers towards the end of the movie, complete with an “it’s our actions that define us” speech that I must have heard in 30 different movies by now.

Overall, the movie has a high floor but a low ceiling. Everything works well as a package and nothing is really egregious, but it lacked any real standout moments–no sequences of me leaning forward and locking in, no big smiles on my face, no real worry for the characters. The whole thing is just fine.

Light 3/5
Supergirl part was hard
I was mad at her the way she pull up but she's highkey goat
Love these guys. I know they're all about to be much more kind to the film than I am though (maybe not Charles)

Same, and you’d be surprised at the reaction from coke baby chuck
Kinda hilarious that this film climaxes the exact same way as Man of Steel (with fifteen 9/11s) after all the criticism that film got for the ridiculous amount of collateral damage to Metropolis
them saying the monkey twitter bots are about Gunn’s real life twitter controversy. didn’t even think about it but now I can’t unsee it

Didn’t even think about that until Sean brought it up but he’s right lol. Gunn wrote a movie where Superman gets canceled lmao
One thing I forgot to mention yesterday… the harem jokes were funny
They stole Invincibles main plot point
Superman weak as s***
Louis an unlikable b**** tbh
Jimmy Olson womanizer plot point wasn’t clear until the alley scene
Using brown victims for the obvious Russia conflict was a racist cop out
Way too much green screen
Fight scenes sucked besides the Kaiju
Mr Terrific washed every character in this
I wanna f*** Supergirl

I agree with 4 of these

She was taking those Krypto blows like nothing trust me I got something for her
I think they should have made him a 2nd year superman or something, he felt a lil too weak to have been doing this for so long. I wonder if he'll eventually get an upgrade in some film. Idk maybe a dip in the sun or something.
The Peacemaker cameo got the biggest cheer in my theater, which was surprising to me cause I've never met someone who has seen that show irl.
I have high hopes for the next season.
Superman was such a p**** in this
That’s what’s so confusing about the reception to this. Admittedly, I’m not a Superman fan, but I feel like this paints him in a s***tier light than man of steel ?
Like his bio parents are just d***s now. How is that not just as bad as “STOP MY INVINCIBLE SON!!” Deadass they had them like “kill them if they resist, son
kill them and take their wives
”
Honestly Superman fans are a weird bunch. Nigga can get his ass handed to him for most of the film, but so long as he saves a dog or some s*** they’re satisfied.

The stop son scene is one of the worse scene I’ve ever seen in a movie.
His parents sending him to conquer earth is different but not enough to have you scratching your head at the decision

They literally showed 2 girls giddy looking at jimmy in the first scene with him
Lex is lucky as s*** that Superman got out and saved Krypto when he did.
Kara would’ve destroyed him if she found out about his bullshit
Struggling on whether to rank this above The Final Reckoning or not. Is a movie with a high floor but low ceiling better than one with some really bad lows but insanely high highs?

someone need to make an edit together of dead reckoning and final reckoning that cuts out the flashbacks
The way that nigga Lex was crying at the end
He was so f***ing funny man. Bro started cheering when they were spamming A1

“with fifteen 9/11s”
that’s a good point; at least in the Snyderverse it’s a setup to show how reckless Superman is. Unless here the people are used to the destruction since meta humans are the norm.
