BlueDreamSwarm feels most like one of the unsettling standalone episodes that peppered the second half of Atlanta‘s run, with layered allegory and varied genre threads. It’s a recipe for a Twilight Zone episode — or, in this case, seven half-hour Twilight Zone episodes — unified by Fishback, notes of almost hallucinatory luridness and a sound design punctuated in moments of high intensity by the underlying titular buzzing.
I’ve been saying for a while that I had a good feeling this show was going to feel like it was straight out of season 3 of Atlanta, and it looks like I was right
Some people aren’t going to like that, but I love that season 3 ended up setting the tone for Donald’s later work
Makes sense since Donald always wanted to do Anthologies so he prolly really loves what they did with S3
