    • To keep in mind: all the members (Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso) had success in their solo careers as DJs & Producers before officially making the group

Short version: They grew a fanbase organically as time passed. First in Europe in the mid 00s. They kept growing there in the late 00's and started to do so in US when "EDM" (american term to sell dance music) was about to pop off. Then they also improved the production of their live shows (taking a cue from Daft Punk's Alive Tour) making it more of a spectacle and leading a path for other EDM acts

Going back a little bit: their solo songs were getting hot within the scene and started to get more recognition (Axwell remixed Madonna and Usher for example, Angello and Ingrosso did a remix for Justin Timberlake). They collaborated with each other: Axwell and Angello did "Tell Me Why", you will recognize the melody right way if you heard it once

Then started doing parties under the name "Swedish House Mafia" where they would DJ along with other collegues friends , it went great and the word of mouth started to get around.

In late 08 they decide to officially form the group with the name Swedish House Mafia.

In 09 they did their 1st show in Ultra Miami, where they started to play and
then released "Leave The World Behind" (their 2nd collab as a trio with Laidback Luke, another producer) and it became the song that gave the trio worldwide recognition.

Later in the summer they got a DJ residency in Pacha Ibiza, naming the event "Dark Forest". Establishing more their brand at the top of the dance world.

Then in 2010 they make a record deal with Polydor Records (UMG), they release their 1st song under the SHM name: "One", then they released the vocal version with Pharrell. The song did really well and it's considered one of the most iconic EDM songs from that era:

    • EDM blows up in the US (David Guetta, Skrillex, Calvin Harris, Tiesto, later Avicii/Hardwell/Zedd)

Later that year they release their 2nd single "Miami 2 Ibiza"(ft. Tinie Tempah) that had great support, specially in the UK. Then they release their 1st compilation album (Until Now) with the group songs, mashups and songs from their labels (Axtone, Size Records and Refune, each one managed by a member)

The trio playing at Tomorrowland that year:

youtu.be/4yvUSknVYiM (Can't embed, site tells me it's too much)

In 2011 they release "Save The World" (ft. John Martin) and then "Antidote" with the electronic duo Knife Party.

In December of 2011 they sell out Madison Square Garden in 10 minutes, with only 4 singles on their name. They become the 1st electronic act to headline and sell out the whole place:

    rollingstone.com/music/music-news/swedish-house-mafia-brings-the-party-to-madison-square-garden-112276

    • They play on festivals around the world. Established DJs play their songs and use it for mashups, hot upcoming producers get hired to make remixes (Alesso, Zedd, etc) and others make bootlegs. Along the way they had to balance their own solo careers, SHM, and manage and sign new producers to their own labels (Axtone, Size Records and Refune) that also released some songs that had great support from the Dance Music world, giving SHM naturally more hot songs to play in their sets

In 2012 they released "Greyhound" and then their biggest commercial song so far: "Don't You Worry Child" (song went Top 7 in Billboard US, 1 in the UK and other countries from the globe).

That year they also produced "Euphoria" and "Numb" for Usher and remixed Coldplay's "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfal". They decide to release their 2nd compilation album, "Until Now".

    • In June 2012 they announce their breakup as a group (never gave a specific reason, but rumors said all the chaos started to influence their friendship) and later do the "One Last Tour" around the globe, making the last stop at Miami for the Ultra Music Festival in March 2013..

    @Mitchell

    • In 2018 they reunited as a surprise to do a set on Ultra Miami. Months later closed Creamfields UK and later announced a couple of shows in Sweden, Mexico and festivals in Europe for 2019.

They wanted to release some songs but had label issues (signed with Columbia Records but left the label later) and then in 2020 COVID hit, pausing their plans and everything around the world.

In 2021 they sign with Republic Records and get a new manager: Wassim "Sal" Slaiby (also working with Weeknd, Doja Cat, Ty and French Montana). They release "It Gets Better" and "Lifetime" (ft. Ty Dolla $ign & 070 Shake)

Later that year they make "Moth To Flame" with The Weeknd. The trio announced their 1st studio album "Paradise Again" slated for late 2021 but then got the release date of April 15th 2022. They also announce a new worldwide tour for the album.

This year they co produced "Sacrifice" and "How Do I Make You Love Me" for Weeknd's "Dawn FM". They even make got to remix "Sacriifice", making it their 2nd official remix. Also they show up in the video for the remix:

They release one more single before the album: "Redlight" (ft. Sting), who re recorded the vocals from The Police's "Roxanne" and shows up in the video:

The Coachella show with Weeknd is their 1st one in the US since 2018.

Bonus: Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso talking about how they met, clip from their documentary:

antidote just killed it with the explanation but yeah basically its just a supergroup of 3 big DJs in a totally singles and DJ set-oriented genre. their released DJ mixes are basically an equivalent of albums for other types of music

when i was huge into the scene in 2010-2013 they were as big of a name in EDM/house as you could get. good marketing/image too tbh, definitely helped with the hype and how it far surpassed any of their solo fame

They are one of the few acts from that era that remain relevant so yeah. Other DJs still use their songs acapellas for mashups to this day

    Albums leaked. Enjoy.

Calling On, Home, Don't Go Mad & Time are the stand outs of tracks. Lovely
