i feel like no matter what she drops people are gonna say it didnt live up to the hype which sucks
Long gaps are not good for artist, i really think we’re starting to see frank was an exception not the rule
I agree. It's because in reality she's not spending 5 years crafting a masterpiece. She just doing what she wants. So when we get it people are going to be putting it under a microscope saying "Well this doesn't feel like 5 years of work" which honestly is that not a fair criticism?
Your job is to put out music. Happy for you living your life and all that, but just know you're setting that expectation for yourself because why else you taking 5 years off your literal job?
I thought she would capitalize on the success of Good Days, I Hate U and Kiss Me More by dropping a new album, but nope still nothing
I don't even know what she's so insecure about atp
Then why is she signed to a music label?
Sounded like a good idea at the time i guess for her 💀
She had one mixtape n one indie album that got her signed, but those were also far apart (granted not as far as it is with ctrl to today).
She says she always had a struggle being happy with herself & her music, but the spotlight exacerbated it ten fold & made it worse. Which is why we're at where we are at.
Pretty sad tbh. At least shes a great collaborator which is probably why shes kept around for so long so far, & TDE probably dont want to give her up themeselves in case that mythical album does finally drop as well.
They try to cater & adhere to SZA a lot. Her TDE Ctrl interview for the release of the album she had with people that worked on the album plus the label heads tells all, along with her general interviews & tweets.
Is she afraid to flop?
She had the perfect two singles to start a new rollout and they performed pretty well on streaming too
This is like saying OD is better than GKMC 💀💀
But you could argue S.80

I guess but usually w long gaps on an album i dont take that into consideration bc it just feels weird. Like if they dropped the exact same album just sooner itd be better?
But you could argue S.80
Yeah if you peaked in 10th grade.
His production, mixing, structuring & skill is way better on GKMC.
S80 still has some amazing things & is good overall, but some of the songs i do not care for any more & some of the songs i was never a fan of. Nostalgia & "purity" holds that project up a lot for fellow diehards imo.
But thats me. Still good tho.
Reason why i mentioned OD tho is because i think its obvious hes leaps n bound ahead of that era (and KLEP) no question.

CLB was cool. If there had been a 5 year gap between CLB and his last it might play a little different because people equate time with mastery. They're like you can't expect a channel orange to drop every year, that's fair, so we give the artist TIME to craft. But if the time to craft doesn't match with the product people are going to call it out.

I think it just comes down to your own expectation vs general public expectation/perception.
I personally dont care in regards to as long as its good at the end im happy, but a bug chunk of people do get caught up into hype & imagination.
Me and you also work on music, but most people dont. So they understand the nuances & the real set up of what goes into making album (which is only one part of the whole process) & the other s***.
Some people legit think people that do music is that all that theyre doing 24/7 is working on music & that the album/song they heard at the end was worked on n fresh up to the leading week prior. When really probably half or more of those songs are 1 to 2+ years old workshopped & so on.
Ctrl is top 5 important rnb projects of 2010s.
Up there with Channel Orange & HOB, especially for women. And why her name still holds so much value & her feats.
And why her leaks are gigantic.
She has two albums worth of leaks & theyre all legit fully finished songs that she refuses to put out due to her insecurities but when the leakers leak them her fanbase loves it thus getting fed until the mythical real album happens
Plus she always has a steady stream of mainstream & underground feats that keep her public
She pullin a half life 3
eh she’s about to release which means 2 albums in 8 years, not that crazy tbh
D’Angelo is the goat and only had 2 albums for decades
Jai paul the goat and has no albums (technically)
Thanks for reminding me about jai paul when I finally forgot
D***head
This insane rush to drive music artists to constantly release is not the norm and yall do not realize that
Imagine telling martin scorcese he has to drop a film every year or two or telling a painter he has to release collect every year
They need to be inspired
It’s sad because when she finally drop her album. People would just say “we waited ex. Amount of years for this?”

itll never live up to the hype
