Everything she was saying about Spike was spot on but then we got to Waiting to Exhale… it’s S***?!
currently working on a list of films that should be recognized as part of the black film canon. I'll also be trying to watch all these films this year and talking about them extensively. Below is the in progress list, feel free to suggest stuff that i'm missing and join me as well!

My thinking behind it is that I want this list to operate as a bit of a timeline for the black experience through film. So that means that films like Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, which is directed by Stanley Kramer, make the list due to its significance within the history of black people on film.
Overall, I want most films here to be written and directed by black people but some films are iconic, significant, or important regardless of that fact.
some of the order bothers me from a chronological standpoint (i.e. Boyz N the Hood being put after New Jack City) but this is an excellent list. i need to dive into a lot of these older classics
not to get overly political so soon but that will be an issue that I'll probably continuously run into throughout the course of this journey. simply put, black film is not really prioritized. Waiting To Exhale has no Blu Ray, let alone 4k remaster.
Baby Boy doesn’t either
i feel like A Low Down Dirty Shame should be on here also. i had never seen a Black noir film before that and i don’t think there’s been anything like it since. but i would love to be corrected on that
