very unfortunate how weak this is overall because a good amount of cool moments & ideas. half these songs are just nothing tbh
Problem is he didnāt go balls deep. Itās like all his experience in making something simultaneously experimental and grandiose (literally the whole thing that makes his sound his sound) went out the window. His Reddit page is saying he sold his catalog for past and present and he sounds uninspired, and I hate that I agree. I donāt hate the album though, itāll probably grow on me
I agree. Something like Loser doesnāt sound like it belongs on the rest of the album for example, even though itās a great song to me. And thatās an example of him ācompromisingā for the fans who donāt really like the dance sound he was going for on a lot of it. I still like a decent amount of songs off the first couple listens though
My Old Ways
Dracula
Loser
Oblivion
Obsolete
See You On Monday
Afterthought
Midlife crisis lyrics and aesthetics though wtf is a 40 year old man doing with a wolf cut talking about Iām a loser
2nd listen i just have this on in the background having a few drinks
Idk man its really not hitting like that
Interesting. I think a few drinks will make this album very nice for me
Will update later
first thing that popped out to me when listening to this album was how colorless it is...which i guess is kinda alluded to with the art but still i'm not a big fan of this stripped back sound
there's moments on this album that i fw but overall it's easily his weakest work

the "progression" on these songs for the most part just sound like cut and pasted loops that kevin wasn't sure how to develop into fully formed ideas. dude can obviously write a phrase, i'm just not sure if this minimalistic approach is his biggest strength

exactly bro. I mean compare the progression & song structure here to anything off Deadbeat. it's like he forgot how to make fully fleshed songs out of great ideas, and the 4 on the floor s*** he's doing isn't interesting or executed well enough to justify the songs being so stagnant and underdeveloped. but there's still a lot of very interesting ideas & sonic choices that make it overall a frustrating listen
