I always admired this song for its simplicity and effectiveness. Its pretty much a perfect pop song and i cant quite wrap my mind around why it works so well.

Just 4 chords and a simple verse that jumps into a chorus with higher tone melody centered around the 5th of the root note.

The only change in the chord progression is the addition of some chord stabs for the chorus that follow the same chord progression.

The bassline literally just follows the chords. Its such a stupidly simple arrangment but it works soo well. How?
