all this moody sweatervest forest music is 100 times easier to chun out than actually good pop music but it almost always guarantees you more critical acclaim and supposed respectability provided it isn't downright terrible. just hit all the generic notes and you set.

so after two poppier albums that were way worse than 1989 and red, it's clear her pop nous is on a big downward slope so rather than try catch flak for diminishing returns, she churned out these last two albums to build up the critical reserves once again

Well yes. It's obvious she sees sales/acclaim as the biggest form of self-validation.

Both albums were critic bait, and she also was smart about the releases. She sent the albums to critics beforehand so they'd write a good review, since they literally had a Taylor Swift album exclusively before it was dropping. I remember like 2 hours after folklore dropped it had like 10 critics posting 5-star reviews who had gotten early copies. Then ofcourse -- critics are sheep, so the rest who didn't get an early listening just followed their consensus.

Everything about her is extremely calculated and planned in a board room.

  • man i like taylor swift but the world doesnt need 2 taylor swift albums in one year

  • Dec 28, 2020

Yeah I mean other than the bon iver record which was great the songs on her new album are just generic pop songs writing wise, but because it’s acoustic guitars and synths over it they talk like its high art or sum lol

it’s an elite strategy I gotta give it to her

  • Dec 28, 2020

    Lmao

  • Dec 28, 2020

    Op speaking facts

She dropped two snoozers but because she acted like she spent a year in Walden pond the critics ate it up

A pop star does something different for once and takes a big risk doing surprise folklore albums that turned out amazing and now you want to say she did it just for "critical acclaim" because you don't want her to get props? This site really does hate women
it was already bad enough we had a bunch of cringey ye stans bullying her just because he did

OP isnt talking about the year 2020 btw

They're talking about the literal two thousand and twenty release versions of her albums that she shamelessly burped out for more money.

More money that will undoubtedly be used to re-record and release multiple old projects in their entirety, which she's framing as some perverted rich white girl feminism issue, when the truth is she's been creatively and artistically bankrupt since 2010.
