its cause vernon and dessner formed big red machine and dropped that album now the two are friends and close collaborators, so a lot of times when one pops up the other does too as is the case for these 2 taylor albums

Just Dessner that wrote the majority of the songs for it, I believe. Maybe they got Berninger in the cut now with some vocals or him with vocals as you say.
