do u recommend this album as someone that hasnt ever listened to one of her albms?
i recommend 1989, folklore and red above this but yeah there’s enough standouts on midnights to win over a first listener
make sure to check the deluxe as well

Yeah, this album didn't do it for me - at all.
My first critique about the album is the production. Pop music Taylor Swift has hit so many highs that it's impossible to pass off beats like this as great when she's sang over MUCH BETTER production on previous albums.
It might be time for her to drop Jack Antonoff altogether or spend less time working with him. It's clear his beats don't push/challenge Taylor anymore and that's not a good thing.
My second critique is the songs themselves. There's really nothing to latch on to.
Hooks are weak.
Melodies are passable at best.
Songwriting is some of her weakest ever - including dating back to her debut album.
On some of these tracks, it also feels like she revisited older songs she's made and tried to make them again but to a poorer result.
I think she had some decent ideas but she failed to execute the landing all across the album.
I'd rather listen to Red, Lover and even reputation than this s***. It's very telling how weak an album is when you can't even find a decent handful of standout tracks from the whole record.
I think Taylor might need to slow it down with the new music. She has now dropped 4 albums with new music from 2019-2022, her most prolific stretch yet and it says a lot that the strongest effort in that period remains folklore.
I think she should use the next 3 years to focus on re-releasing her older albums and then return with an album of new songs in about 4/5 years because these songs ain't hitting like they used to and the ideas are getting repetitive.
It's rather unfortunate because I'm a lowkey Swiftie so I'm always excited for new music but not if that means she stops offering the best she can.
With all that being said, she'll be fine regardless. Hope this does wonders for her.
If I had to make my pick of the songs that left an impression on me:
Sweet Nothing (by far my favorite off the album and surprise! the one song with no Jack Antonoff production!)
Snow on the Beach
That's about it.
wtf
Who she even f***ing? Also Taylor not the type to not let dude wear a glove cmon now

Pleighboi white, I’m assuming?
Wait she dropped 7 more songs?
I wonder what the boost of streams compares to if she just announced and dropped a 20 song album instead of 13 songs and then more songs
