yeah, most artists have their dedicated fanbase that will prioritize checking out their stuff. but it's not even necessarily about direct competition with a "bigger" artist. having the competition at all will inevitably cut into the overall attention of the project. artists/labels just try to plan around the time they can capitalize the most.
