Taylor’s music isn’t offensively mediocre in a vacuum

It’s the almost Christ-like pedestal she gets put on by her audience that makes outsiders put her work under a magnifying glass, expecting genius-level artistry and musicality and authorship, and ultimately walking away feeling like her art does not live up to the appraisal it receives

To equate it to a field that is more objectively judged, it would be like if a player in the NBA who was averaging 20 PPG won the MVP award year after year, and his fans kept talking about him like he was one of the best players of all-time. 20 PPG is decent, but in today’s NBA that wouldn’t even make the Top 35 in scoring.

I don’t think anyone thinks that Taylor Swift is the worst musician of all time who’s never released a single good song ever. It’s just that for the amount of praise and awards and acclaim that she receives, it does not correlate to the talent that is on display within her bodies of work. It’s just puzzling.

well ya i mean she's one of the biggest artist in the world she's bound to be hold on that pedestal and have a crazy following. What artist on that level doesn't have that same issue? Clearly her songwriting does have prowess to it if she's reached that status. U not agreeing is fine but I don't think it warrants the constant hatred towards her & her music like I keep seeing.

Mind u she's 12 albums deep into her career and possibly more to come so there's bound to be flubs along the way.
