It's a mixture of both. Not that correlation is causation, but:
It was definitely the stricter policies rather than the funding that really deflated crime, but those stricter policies were still being carried out by someone - like I said earlier in the thread, police in NYPD basically can't do too much now, so yeah they are essentially completely useless and do genuinely make things worse because they've been almost regulated out of their original position in the city

In the meantime, up the police presence so people can’t get away with s*** like this. There’s absolutely ZERO reason why someone is able to shoot 3 people on a NYC subway and get away with it.

It’s just 1.) New York in TV/movies is way diff than the actual New York, 2.) this is such a unique city, there’s nothing even comparable in the rest of the US. So unless you’ve lived here, it’s REALLY hard to understand a lot of the issues that we deal with
