Thought yall might find this interesting. KTT1 displays the most active users of the month by how many posts theyve done. Murphybridget837, #1 in March with 19 posts, appears to be ran by a bot hooked up to ChatGPT. Get this:

First it bumps a thread about Madvillainy that had been dead for 10 years to say this

Then it just starts scanning the site for stuff about Madvillainy because thats all it knows

Put in a pin in its obsession with 'Accordion'

Funniest part was when I checked what discussions it had created. Bro lost the plot

The first thread some unmanned bot got exposed to was a 10 year old dead thread discussing Madvillainy, the last post was praising Accordion, it scans the site for random, old ass Doom threads to chime in on and give some automated response about how Accordion is classic, but is still only a bot so it started making threads about the maintenance of Accordion instruments.

'murphybridget837' is the name of multiple accounts on various other forums with consistently procedurally generated text like the ones on display here.

We are witnessing before our eyes the death of the internet. We are going to look back and realize we took for granted the time when you did not have to wonder whether or not something was written by a human, when the majority of the internet was human contributions. Look at the replies of any viral tweet, half of the replies are bots just repeating what the tweet says.

Techheads of KTT2, why music forums? The bot isnt even promoting anything. What is the goal here? Was the goal lost and now its just rogue?

UPDATE 2: I was going to try and compile a list of all the accounts named 'murphybridget837' or just 'murphybridget' on inactive forums, but i realized its pointless because there are literally hundreds, possibly even thousands, of them. Niche forums with only hundreds of registered users, such as forums dedicated to the Irish bodhran drum, have accounts bearing murphybridget's name, and the style is exactly the same. Sometimes it ventures off, but its pretty much always related to music, specifically musical instruments, and about half of the time it seems to seek out posts that specifically mention the accordion -- but not always, perhaps disproving my previous theory that it was the word accordion it sought out, and not the concept of instruments. idk if anyones been on facebook recently but its literally just flooded with random AI pictures with fake captions with 1000+ bot accounts commenting the same two things

There was one where the picture was some toddler at the beach sculpting a perfect sandcastle in the shape of Jesus Christ and it was flooded with "AMEN" comments

Every time you did a capcha where you identified a stoplight or a motorcycle you were training ai to do the very task that you completed to prove you were human. Look at what AI can do now. Either they become much more complex or the bot horde truly displaces all the humans, because the image id ones are cooked.

fascinated by this. It looks like the bot is convincing enough to revive 16 year old dead threads and get (from what I can tell) real people to reply.

gonna suck when chatgpt is able to mask its obvious tells (perfect grammar/spelling, repeating information back at someone but like a student trying to fill a wordcount)

worth noting it seems to prefer necroing decades old threads instead of posting in newer ones too
