I won’t say who but I SPOKE with someone associated with GOOD and the advice they gave me is not to wait for the label to do something for you. You have to go out of your way and do things yourself, if the music is good it’ll pay out. This advice came from a GOOD rep.

so basically what they said is “signing to GOOD gives you no benefits at all except name association” gotchu

She did get def jam resources how u think she secure the features and producers she got on the album

Once that is done, promoting the actual music like Def Jam did for Umbrella, Pon De Replay, Disturbia and all of the other things that made Rihanna Rihanna

    Which resources hasn’t she received?

Marketing and Promotion I'd presume, that's what she said in the Live

    2) Cruel Summer

    3) Fade

    4) GOOD weeks

Ehhh. I wouldnt call this good promo from the label. This is acceptable as a GOOD crew member but as a label this isnt adequate promotion

  • Dec 6, 2020

Lmao niggas will believe labels and label owners are s*** all the time except when it's a label owner that they like

nah, bc it takes more than just making good music to build a fanbase & have a successful career in music. you need promo. you need marketing. what’s the use of making good music if nobody knows to check it out? how are you supposed to have a hit single on the radio if nobody pays the radio DJs to play your song? (& yes, 99% of songs played on the radio were paid for to be played. that’s not even up for debate)

I highly doubt this is the only promo she got but as an artist sometimes this is enough for us to spread our wings

    Umbrella

? that was a Jay Z verse he gave her it wasn't the foundation of her persona or push

On top of the fact that again she had marketing and promotion outside of "Jay Z gives Rihanna a verse; promo DONE" lmfao what nigga

Ironically you were bashing us for not knowing how it works but it clearly seems you’re idea is still skewed or old fashioned. Nowadays labels mostly sign those that built their own platform. Either don’t be lazy or don’t sign to a label.

So she gotta get pregnant every time she want some promo?

She gotta be the female Boosie to get popping before they can just give her an adequate marketing plan and budget? lmao

From the features, the videos, the production with all the sample flips. Def jam didnt just say let's waste this expensive album just because

The video was pushed by def jam and capitalized off the hype of the reveal. The album definitely was marketed especially for an artist of her status.

  • i think it all boils down to Def Jam having no real president and pretty much being a direction-less label right now. S*** is f***ed up over there right now. I don't even know who's running GOOD right now but them being under Def Jam doesn't help

Also multiple artists have come out and said they had problems with GOOD/Def Jam.

So it isn't like this is an isolated claim. Outside of Sean there isnt a single thriving artist on GOOD.

    Now ask yourself.

    1)Why Except Sean?

    2) If Sean managed to flourish in a bad label is it possible for others to do it as well?
