If the first time fans heard an artist was on a mixtape they"ll never appreciate their albums. Examples of that would be weeknd, wiz, drake cole & wale. Cole has several projects better than the warm up and FNL. But people will still point too those tapes as his peak. No matter how much the weekend has progressed as an artist over his studio album people can't see past the trilogy tapes to appreciate albums like Beauty behind the madness Starboy in after hours. Just in the last 3 years people started to appreciate Drake's albums. Even though he always sold a lot the now it's just for the longest is that he hasn't talked so far gone yet. People pretty much Start and end wales career at the mixtape about nothing.
I’ve given it a lot of thought OP and I came to the conclusion that if the first time fans heard an artist was on a mixtape they"ll never appreciate their albums. Examples of that would be weeknd, wiz, drake cole & wale. Cole has several projects better than the warm up and FNL. But people will still point too those tapes as his peak. Stupid post
Weeknd still hasn’t made a project better than HoB
Vast majority of Drake fans would have preferred Take Care and NWTS over SFG right when it dropped, they didn’t just start appreciating those albums
Honestly f*** yourself OP
Mixtapes just were what they were
Albums were too formulaic especially for most of the type of artist we’re talking about trying to make that mainstream crossover effort
Now everyone wants a hit or viral song and don’t even try to do the album formula thing anymore (song for the streets, clubs, ladies, lyrical, etc.)
maybe its because... the mixtapes are considered by the majority to be better then the albums for just the artists you are thinking about?
