I’m so conflicted on this song
I like what he does with the songwriting and his vocals, and the first 30 seconds had me thinking this was gonna be the climax of this album. But then the drums come in
like wtf was this song supposed to be? It sounds like a badly executed Backstreet Boys song. I don’t have a problem with him taking risks, but I would hope there’s payoff at the end
Also is he still solo producing everything? He’s talented but that might be a problem if he’s trying to step into new musical territory. Dave Fridmann helped him mix lonerism, he should’ve called up max martin or mark Ronson who he’s worked with in the past to help execute the vision of a bubblegum pop song. But that’s just my take
thread has me relistening to currents smfh man he used to be a demigod
The hooks are unreal
Lonerism is my favorite because it has those amazing hooks and some of the crispiest engineering you'll hear on a rock album. I miss when his drums sounded good.
Loser
Afterthought
End of summer

Dracula
Everything else is awful
Oblivion might be one of the worst songs of 2025
oblivion was one of the best songs, do y'all travel? its a costal banger for sure

his guitar tones were pretty sick too
his guitar tones were pretty sick too
It was simultaneously nostalgic and like nothing i’d ever heard before

it sounds like someone doing tame karaoke in a bad way that beat is so lifeless. i think my problem is these songs are so lacking in dynamics (on purpose really with how he changed his studio approach), and his vocals have no character to them over the styles he chose. i don't think the stripped down basics approach works for his music at all

LOL that's a fair take
at least for me, a lot of the stuff like this where he's using machine drums reminds me a lot of like the covers he was putting out during 2020 which i was a fan of
don't think somebody else's input is the problem here. if anything, i think kevin is probably better off left to his own devices if he wanted to do something super poppy if dracula is the example of that
i view the end product of the album more as like an artist who struggled with direction rather than any sort of decline at doing the things he's done in the past

exactly his drums on lonerism & innerspeaker were f***ing unreal, he completely abandoned having good drums in favor of making them as palatable for easy listening as possible. drums all over deadbeat are fisher price, 0 weight or punch to them. also the engineering was so immaculate ON TOP OF how dynamic and layered all of it was, which made the songs so full of life you could live in those albums
The mix on this
when the bass falls in
whole album is peak but that lonerism opening run is some of the best music ever made
I don’t think it was a bad album but pretty forgettable. And for the bar he set for himself. Yeah that’s not good. But still some decent songs
Sadly yeah kinda
Like 2 that went hard tho
Yep it literally had 2 songs on it
Crazy fall off
still riding the wave of currents and gaining new fans every day because of it. It’s like his Graduation, it’s gonna be the gift that keeps on giving and allows him to drop stinkers without killing his career entirely.
Absolutely agreed, but yeah idk man he lost the sauce (for now)
I have no doubt he’ll come back strong with a GOAT album eventually, just give it time
