used the search function to see if there were old threads i could bump bout this, didn't find any
u know what this is
(best link i could find for a "full" version, though there are still some obvious cuts)
anywho, I actually never watched this before tonight cus at the time it released everyone at my college was slamming ye for the slavery choice business, and many of my circles knew i was/am a ye fan, so i just avoided watching this one cus i really didn't wanna face the prospect of someone i respect bein as hellish as many on my campus made him out to be
my avoidance back then is now pretty interesting to think about given the content of what ye says in this interview. overall, i'm glad i finally watched it
n yes indeed, this interview raised hell; his calling out to everyone in the office is pretty wild. i'm glad that the office contributed back to ye's comments. it made for a lot better of an experience, though i'm sure the emotions were fiery at the time for some
and in retrospect it's unsurprising that other media sources only fixated on the slavery is a choice thing. wish that would've gotten more service in the interview itself so as to mitigate all the hoopla, but there's a lot more going on in this interview than just that
also, girl who sits down w/ the interviewers n eventually ye (though she gets cut off every time she tries to speak, unfortunately) is way fine
still cant believe people never understood his point about mental slavery
It was so obvious, hes been repeating that message since tcd days
When he talked about opioids
Opioid addiction, pharmacy the real trap...

If you want old threads look up in KTT1
man these 20 mins made him really make a new album in 2 weeks
it's an interesting part of his legacy to consider it like that
It was so obvious, hes been repeating that message since tcd days
Literally...one thing I love about Kanye is how consistent he's been his whole career. "We buy our way out of jail, but we can't buy freedom." He been having the same perspective since day one.

Been saying this since the interview too

These 20 minutes killed the ~year and a half (give or take) of work that he'd put into Love Everyone

i'll get around to readin ktt1's tmz intvw discussion eventually, though i can probably already predict how it went down lol
no use bumping it though, it'd just get spammed by all those discount d*** pill ads kanyetothe.com what have we done to you
still cant believe people never understood his point about mental slavery
his fault for going on tmz instead of jre
f***ing idiot
his fault for going on tmz instead of jre
f***ing idiot
i love that it was on tmz tbh
the whole interaction between kanye n van was super cool
except the hug part imo -- i get what kanye was goin for w/ the hug, but i think that it may have bred more contempt than love. perhaps could've just settled with getting physically closer (so as to calm the shouting) and maybe a handshake or maybe just closer physical proximity. hug was idealistic beyond the point of practicality given the context they were in
if he were on JRE then joe would've no doubt probed the questions/answers better, but I think tmz as an environment actually helped demonstrate some of kanye's idea of how reactionary and intentionally silencing arguments can (and, in his opinion, shouldn't) be while also demonstrating how difficult it'd be to practically implement his plan for "loving everyone" -- the implementation of such was something ye clearly didn't have all the way figured out at the time

LITERALLY THO
man these 20 mins made him really make a new album in 2 weeks
Honestly GOAT 20 minutes lmfao
Raw uncut unmedicated Kanye. My favorite.
Tbh I think everyone got mad because he was clearly saying slavery back then was a choice too. Which is just the most horrible choice of words to describe the atrocities of what happened back then. But I think it’s pretty clear that Ye’s saying that slavery didn’t end after the 13th amendment and at a certain point we start choosing comfort over revolution. People need to be offended tho so no to them Kanye said “niggas got on a boat and never looked back”
LITERALLY THO
He even said it in his breakfast club interview. He said that he himself was mentally enslaved- so hes definitely been saying it for a while

Is he not still enslaved? He keeps talking about being a Billionaire as if being a Billionaire means anything
"we can buy our way out of jail, but we can't buy freedom"
Does being a Billionaire allow him to buy freedom now?

I wouldnt say so. I think his point about mental slavery is when you feel like you can never be as good or successful in a particular field because of your race (not because youre not good enough)
I think Yeezy become a huge company proves his point- that it is a choice
but obviously going to a billionaire level is a crazy extreme
man these 20 mins made him really make a new album in 2 weeks
and it was great

„Slavery sounds like a choice to ME“ wasthe full quote...
Saying that he kanye west would rather be dead then a slave

Yup and that was in 2013 bruh. People don’t wanna listen.

I think Kanye believes he’s not mentally enslaved due to his salvation but scientifically speaking of course that nigga enslaved. We’re all mentally enslaved to the things we love, whether we love them out of our nature or because we were brainwashed into loving them.
Kanye is enslaved to God now and claims to be enslaved by nothing else. I’d argue he’s still enslaved to his monetary success and his goals to innovate society.
