This was the first song i heard by him, i had this on rotation for weeks. He really had one

Now, hes been at it making consistently good music (it aint great or nothing, but good) for years. He changes his formula to be more current and everything. He even made a song that was basically Nice for What, but i guess he realized that was too on the nose and deleted it.

Anyway, i found out he made a "part 2" to that song i was bumping years ago

this basically. it's not enough to just be good. actually that maybe isn't even the most important part. you gotta have something different or interesting to offer. whether it's just your image, your antics, or your music.

this guy sounds great, but he doesn't stand out in any way. it sounds like an amalgamation of like 2010 kanye, vinny paz for jedi mind tricks, and idk like common or some s***

Very interesting, so what you're saying is the game is gimmick-based more than skills based. I get that, but i mean people like J Cole dont have much gimmick to them but still get noticed and get on, why is that?

that's not what i said really. i said you can get noticed with gimmicks or image bullshit, but you can also turn heads if your music is good and it stands out as something unique. the exact formula that makes anyone artist successful is hard to pin down, but in j coles case, he's got quite of a bit attitude that and swagger that comes across in his music, plus he's a super skilled MC. somehow his unique personality shines through in the music and it makes people wanna listen

I still like music that sounds from that era.
