Woke culture bled into music journalism and ever since I have zero respect for faux music journalism.

I’m socially far left and respect all the “wokeness” s***. But letting that s*** affect your opinion when it comes to art is the wackest s*** ever smh

Not even. mfs straight up giving this s*** a 0 Just for having marlyin and da baby on a bonus song. It’s clearly not even abt the music to them. They need to Learn to separate the two

1 reviewer gave it a zero. The user average is in the same 5's range. This is a very long, uninspired and tiring album that is Ye's worst.

I've been on KTT & KTT2 long enough to remember when people were saying how crazy a post-divorced Kanye album would be. This is not it lol

    Very long? Yes, fair.

    Uninspired? Ridiculous.

The user averages on metacritic give Taylor 9+ every album she drops. That audience hates Kanye

And half the reviews are filler gibberish with a 0/10 attached

There is no discourse surrounding the music of this album, which has only been available for a day anyway

Let's be real, back in the 00s Kanye could s*** on a microphone and get a 10/10, now the switch has been flipped and his albums are derided

This is, according to metacritic, the single worst album to be released in August

So don't give me s*** about being unwilling to think critically when the entire discussion is being had in bad faith

  • Aug 30, 2021

Bad reviews are actually good for the artist

    means they're doing something different

So Kanye made s*** back then? And you’re really comparing one of the greatest artists to a pop singer?

Are you dumb man. He said that Kanye could get a great review because he wasn't hated as much back then even though the music was still good. The music is good on this album but the combo of him being despised and the fact that these reviewers are basing their reviews on features with Manson and DaBaby they are far less generous. This is not hard to understand. Stop being condescending to fit your own argument and pay attention to what people are saying

Beyond the fact that the critical crowd has turned on Kanye and simply refuse to engage with what he's doing on record seemingly, at least partially, because he's a billionaire, and therefore any personal thoughts that aren't "correct" are considered navel-gazing and their validity denied (none of his emotions or thoughts on spirituality are taken seriously or treated with empathy, which is a shame because there's a lot of repeated emotional and philosophical and even political throughlines that add up throughout this album), it's also a problem that critics no longer distinguish bonus tracks from the actual album. And I'm not talking about Manson/DaBaby affecting people's judgment. I'm talking about considering the album to be unnecessarily long because it contains four remixes. It's like the streaming era has fried people's brains. Only like one or two critics even referenced the initial fact that everything after Wolves/Frank's Track were bonuses on Pablo, and everyone called it an overlong mess (though in that album's case that sense of sprawling mixtape-like generosity became its calling card). In this case these are clearly bonus tracks. The album isn't as long as it seems yet nobody is really making the distinction about where the album proper ends.

Anyway, if you want to read another total s***show of a review check out Hollywood Reporter. Knives are certainly out...not from everyone, but from some, undeniably.

I'd happily put Donda in the same tier as much of his pre-TLOP music and I'm not delusional for feeling that way. It's just an opinion. I'm also willing to discuss the music. These critics aren't doing that, which is what bothers me.

I use to follow pitchfork religiously. They use to be that cool older brother who puts you on to cool stuff. Now they’re the older sister who comes home for the holidays, and argues with your dad about stuff just to debate about stuff they barely have any knowledge on. What I’m saying is pitchfork and other review sites are less about the music and more about their personal agenda. At lease fantano just talks about the music still, he’s the only reviewer I have any interest in still

Haha one of the reasons I made this thread. Look at the people who write this s***! They definitely get a high from writing on these bigger platforms, but they must feel so lonely & broke and jealous that they can’t create anything of value so they have to hate while leveraging as many online social movements as possible to get pieces of attention from each protected & sterile group.

Imagine walking on eggshells all day making sure you agree with & back up weakminded uneventful s*** all day.
