Watched this movie in Ireland when it first came out. The crowd loved it and laughed at some jokes I didn't really get. Great movie though, one of my favorites from the year

Not wanting to be friends anymore after years of friendship Similar to how the cop at the bar mentioned how he missed when the 2 sides of the Irish civil war were both fighting on the same side

Senseless violence = Colm taking it to the extreme and cutting his fingers off

Innocent casualties of war = donkey dying

Colin Farrell refusing to leave and start over with his sister = countries fighting over land

For such a dark and depressing movie, it sure has funny lines lol.

Honestly didn’t find this moving or that funny or depressing. Not very shocking either, knowing McDonough the finger thing was very predictable. I guess the film requires more sympathy for padraic to enjoy it?
