If Pattinson didn’t wanna do franchise s*** he wouldn’t have signed on for Batman at all.

You can tell that Matt Reeves wants the whole mythos....but without the supernatural/over the top stuff. He can do the more stylish stuff but nothing truly off the wall, so that sounds to me more like no clayface, manbat, no freeze/ivy without doing a rework, stuff like that. But that opens the door for hush, pyg, firefly, two face, maybe bane, anarky, stuff along those lines.

Meanwhile gunn don't give a s*** about that, just doesn't want him to be a joke. Gonna be hard to separate that for audiences that aren't ppl like us arguing on message boards about the finer details, other than the obvious "this one fights gangsters and this one fights monsters and everything else". Because the performances, suits, city, supporting cast etc, EVERYTHING gonna have to be pretty different to drive that wedge home

Gonna be tough when Reeves did the best Batman vibe in his first movie

the big selling point for me with the batman was definitely the gritty realistic detective angle but i wont lie and say i dont wanna see clayface or dr. freeze in this universe

People who want Mr. Freeze in The Batman Part II but don't want Rob in the DCU are funny to me

I think DCU is deliberately delaying their version of Batman so that they dont have two Batmen in parallel on the big screen. And I'm totally fine with it. I'd rather they explore more lesser known characters than doing the 100th Batman revival.

just a complete clash of tone imo. you can do Batman in a more comic-booky tone that will fit the DCU, but Reeves universe seems to be in its own pocket.

age wise Pattinson is also pushing 40. it will also be another example retro-fitting an existing universe into another newer universe, which always feels hamfisted.

I would agree with wanting Pattinson being able to work in the DCU.
But another thing that Gunn is trying to establish is the entire BatFamily already being a thing.

For me it’s not just the “Fantastical” Batman that I want.
But Gunn’s Batman is suppose to revolve around the father and son dynamic of Bruce and Damian. With other members of the Bat Family being involved.
We’re also getting that Jason and D*** animated movie, which I believe is gonna be in universe.

I think the ship has already sailed for Battison to have the BatFamily involved.

To me, getting a Gotham where we already have Batman, Nightwing, Red Hood, Red Robin, Robin, Batgirl, Batwoman, Batwing, etc. established is something we haven’t seen before on screen(I can’t imagine we’re getting everyone I listed, but still).
That’s something we’ve NEVER seen in film before, and something I thought we’d never see.

Just getting a Batman that has the whole BatFamily, AND the comic book-y villains just excites me more than the Battison films continuing.
I still want The Batman 2, and think they can co exist. But I’m not interested in wait for this till 2030 lol

I think Pattinson signed on to Batman fully expecting that it would probably end up being a trilogy.
I can’t imagine he’d sign on if his Batman was pitched as being part of a entire cinematic universe where he’d be appearing in a Batman Trilogy and a Justice League Trilogy

I don’t buy at all that someone would sign on to play the biggest superhero in the world without knowing that it potentially could grow into something way larger franchise wise
