It’s time for the Jack O’ Connell villain announcement @mattreeves
I highkey hope Harvey Dent is in this film, and he doesn’t even need to turn in to Two-Face yet.
After the flooding, crime in Gotham has likely skyrocketed higher than it’s ever been, so a character like Harvey showing up and campaigning to become District Attorney would make perfect sense
And Bruce would end up really liking Harvey’s campaign and message, so he publicly endorses him and they become friends.
Instead of him becoming Two Face already, it could be pretty compelling to see Harvey and Bruce’s friendship more fleshed out, and give Harvey’s character more time to develop.
That way whenever he does make the turn to evil, it hits way harder
Also Harvey’s story could end up having a clear parallel to Bella Real’s campaign. Bella wanted Gotham to have real change, and she ultimately won the campaign, but she ends up being attacked towards the end of the film. Harvey could have a very similar arc where he wants to bring real change and reform, wins the DA campaign, but ends up being brutally attacked and scarred at the end
It would send a clear thematic message…in Gotham you can’t try to fix the city without walking away with scars
And man imagine if Harvey’s ends up becoming scarred at the very end of Part 2 and then the next ReevesVerse HBO show is a Two Face mini series

The issue i've been struggling with on this for years (even pre-The Batman) is that the typical function Harvey usually initially plays in Batman films like '89 and TDK has already been taken by Bella (an original Reeves character)
Bella already has the "Real Change" slogans, grassroots, new gen, anti-corruption role in The Batman. She's even reached out to Bruce personally to forge a potential relationship in the following film(s). She was the sole survivor alongside Bruce from the Riddler killings too
Why did Matt create a character knowing how much it overlaps with Harvey in the very same material he's adapting? Are we just going to do it again with Dent? I've always suspected there's a chance Reeves blindsides the audience and Bella is a Batman villain and/or his Two-Face.
The Penguin already introduced Oz having eyes on her mayor seat, which puts her potentially in a new scenario she could be physically harmed over. I'm not theorizing this because its what i want, i just have never been able to answer why this character exists and think he's hiding something in plain sight.
I wouldn't be surprised if the open DA spot does introduce Harvey Dent, I just hope for at least 1 full film he's simply Dent. Maybe he isn't Two-Face soon or at all. Its not like he'll have much screen time to work with.
Really a bit tired of the predictable origin events that lead him to being Two Face too, which is why i can see there being a diversion. Feel like it undercuts the Harvey side tremendously and doesn't add to the tragedy because the entire audience already knows what will happen. Harvey very much still exists when his face changes.

They don't even need to go "2 Face". That part of the character has already been explored. What would be far more interesting is knowing Dent before he was driven to it. And leaving it at that. Making it more tragic.

Exactly. Also allows for more time with the triumvirate of Batman-Gordon-Dent
Even if they do it tho, I just hope they remember Two Face is still a split personality AFTER the attack. I want to see Harvey manipulate Two Face for once. Successfully appealing to Dent and his lawyer side is the most interesting way to beat him
Pattinson in TENET lowkey felt more Bruce Wayne-y than he did in TB
You know what, you making sense
lovely.
the killer is gorgeous
Worthy replacement
Great replacement. Went for someone with an existing neo-noir background and an Academy Award winner
Wasn't concerned about Reeves finding someone but happy to finally have the name
Makes complete sense Reeves would bring in the cinematographer who’s worked with Fincher multiple times.
It feels full circle considering how heavily Reeves is inspired by Fincher
this still kills me lol, because reeves has never cited fincher as influence, more so things that fincher was inspired by
as it was written

I think Reeves and Fincher just happen to like incredibly similar things. Its very strange Reeves has never mentioned Fincher before despite how vocal he is with his film influences. Fans and critics are the biggest push here on Reeves' Fincher influences, never a single quote from Matt.
I'm certain he looks at Fincher to the extent Fincher has had such an impact on neo-noir the last 30 years though, its just odd. He'll note stuff like zodiac killer as inspo for Riddler, but not the film Zodiac itself. And then he'll discuss films like French Connection and Klute (which Fincher was inspired by for Se7en), but not a single Fincher work.
I feel like a lot of directors with a similar flair like Erik. Not a coincidence his other jobs have been with Ridley Scott and Michael Mann
