actually reading the article this honestly best case scenario, reeves still involved but soderbergh helping irl. we won

especially with 2/3 of it shot already

  • quadra

    Did we lose

The man who made the original amazing movie stepped down and is only continuing directing thru phone calls . What do u think

  • ANTI

I think it’s more the fact that Soderbergh actually used generative AI in his Lennon doc and didn’t shy away from it. So that combined with the statement got people nervous.

But they’re not gonna use AI.

how do we know they won't use AI? not trying to instigate honestly curious cus if he's used it and supports it why not utilize it for this to smooth the process in his eyes?

Soderburgh is a big fan of the first film, wants to ensure as smooth as a transition as possible, wants nothing else but finish out the film to Matt’s exact vision, is working with Matt (and the cinematographer) to get the last few weeks of footage and then Matt will take over for the post production as he normally would.

It sounds like it was either this or scrapping the film, so I think this is somewhat a win

I feel like we aren’t even going to be able to tell by the time the film comes out. And in 40 years, the fact Soderbergh even did this will be a fun fact that isn’t much talked about because of how little it is felt in the final product

There is absolutely no way the movie was being scrapped

Matt won’t be ready for months. You can’t just hold all those sets for months and all the actors in the movie can’t just be on standby for what could be 6 months to a year or longer!

If not scrapped, started from scratch down the line once the actors, DP and below the line workers have all taken other jobs.

I’m not a big rogue one guy but rogue one?

But this situation is just different from a lot of other examples. A studio hasn’t brought another director to change the direction or recalibrate or fix anything creatively. This isn’t reshoots or revisions because of creative differences or an unsure studio. it’s just another director stepping in to finish what has been started and act as a surrogate.

And the original director is rarely if ever brought in to edit or spearhead post production in the way that Reeves will. In the other examples, the OG director is usually totally shut out and the original vision is something the new team is trying to get away from, not maintain

I really think 0 of this will be felt in the final product and it’ll just play as a 100% Matt reeves movie

It’s still Matt Reeves’s crew and production team

It’s still Matt Reeves’s crew and production team

All the same! They also could literally be going off Matt’s shot list and storyboards.

Reeves is going to finish it

And even if he isn’t capable of finishing it, it’s still the ReevesVerse. He wrote the movie.

  • If it’s really 2/3rds shot there’s a good chance soda can wrap it up the way Matt wants it especially if he ll be consulting from abroad

It’s going to suck hearing “ if Matt directed this would have been greatest movie of all time god father 2”

    This

If it turns out uneven like the first one (third act sucked and you all know it) this take will be everywhere
