Y’all really think James Gunn isn’t gonna let Matt do what he wants?
Please tell my why this could be a bad thing besides “I don’t want it” or “It doesn’t fit the world”
those are the two best reasons tho
Look, as long as you let Matt cook and use Rob ONLY in crossovers it should be fine
As much as I LOVE The Batman I don’t want another ultra realistic Batman franchise. There is a way to keep the feel of the film while also at least getting a little out there.
The DCEU really didn’t explore the Batman mythos either
Plus, this would effectively get rid of Jared Leto
Harley is pretty much her own character now so she’s gonna be over with the Suicide Squad
I want a realistic yet fantastical Batman. I’m tired of the tactical ultra realism s*** in my Batman films
That said, I don’t want to see green lantern or Superman come down from the sky in ANY reevesverse film
Feel like it would be tonally jarring to have this version of Batman exist within whatever DCU has planned
Though, each director applying their own style and tone to these characters is kinda what I wanted from the DCU ultimately
My fear is that reeves shrinks down his current plans for a bigger Batman universe in favor of joining the DCU. I’m also not interested in seeing any crossovers in the Batman universe
Idk I just think things will get messy
Im not even saying incorporate him in the current DCEU. Make The Batman their “Iron Man” (in terms of movie Phase structure). If that’s not the case they’re going to have to do some Crisis bs to reset the universe anyway.
Look at it like this: Batman The Animated series had a completely different feeling than Superman TAS and eventually the Justice League series. The DCAU built off Batman TAS. No reason that The Batman can’t do the same.
Gotham and Metropolis have always been polar opposites and seeing that in film will accentuate that even more.
Plus I think Batman being a grounded character who is exposed to the super powered side of the world could be a great way to make Batman the POV character of a Justice League movie for example.
If they do it, my hope is any crossovers are outward meaning that a Justice League movie would have Rob but they wouldn’t use Robs movie to set it up. A Teen Titans movie could use Matt’s Robin but not use a Batman movie for setup. Things like that I think could work really well.
Also, I don’t think Matt’s going to cancel any plans he had unless he wanted to.

Good points here
I agree completely about the Gotham and metropolis being opposites and I really hope that they do a great job juxtaposing those two. Superman needs to have the same level of world building and immersion as the Batman did
My only fear was it altering Matt’s plans. If those are still intact, and Pattinson is down for this, then I’m all in.
I wonder if there’ll be any supernatural elements in this version of Batman.
Like, could they do Clayface or Poison Ivy for instance?

Well clayface wouldn’t be hard. Poison ivy may be a little tough to translate into this universe though

Clay face better not be some serial killer who wears changeable prosthetics or some boring s*** like that
I want reeves to get a lil weird. Fantastical and being grounded can exist together. See the planet of the apes trilogy

Wouldn’t that just be Hush?
I could see him being a villain in one of these.

True, didn’t think of that so I doubt they’ll go that route with clay face anyways (good)
It’s happening

NOOOOOOOO

I don’t see why not. Characters with these fantastical elements could still fit in this grounded Gotham.
I’m still convinced that he’d approach it like heb approached a tribe of apes waging war against ex-military fascists. It’s all in the tone & how believable you make it for the “normal” characters.

just because The Batman's current universe is super dark and realistic, does not mean it cannot be within a greater universe that has fantastical elements about it. there are every day things in these comic books that deal with more true to life situations.
a universe does not have to be mutually exclusive to being fantastical or super realistic. I am beyond tired of seeing an insanely realistic Batman, I want to see him be in the Justice League and fight alongside Superman as the World's Finest at some point.
with that said, Gotham can be completely about and contained within Gotham with Reeves building.
Superman can be completely contained and about Metropolis. Some movies will have stingers that glue them together, but expanding this universe will take some time and some interjecting between the films. I can see this soft reboot of the DCU being well done, The Batman is a cornerstone for this moving forward since there are literally no other Batman options at this point and the fact of how successful it was and well received it has been.
I would think Reeves would be fine with it if Batman corner of the DCU is exclusively his and maybe he has some veto power on them using Bat characters in other movies.
how much would Batman characters realistically cross over with the wider DC Universe anyway? Probably not much. By the time a new JL movie comes around Reeves might be done with his trilogy or close to it anyway.
yall can stop panicking

Panicking has been happening almost daily but about different things
Gunn just shuts them down quick
Yeah, James is letting Matt do whatever he wants

what if they're playing the semantics game. the report said they are exploring the possibility, when in reality its already set in stone. would be funny just to keep things as a surprise

There’ll prob be at some point…Reeves just wants to pace it out. Pattinsons Batman follows a trajectory so far that somewhat resembles your average comic Batman. Gotham encounters a major change in year 2, then things just get crazier and more fantastical as his career progresses
