i wouldnt take any of the crazy quincy jones stuff too seriously, he pretty much backtracked on the beatles stuff anyway. he knows damn well paul isnt the worst bass player hes heard and is actually great lol

in that interview he was claiming Ringo was sucking on drums during the sessions for his Sentimental Journey album which....Ringo didn't even play drums on

he claimed some BS about jimi hendrix too saying he was scared to play with jazz musicians and that one of the Microsoft co founders (!) was as good at guitar as hendrix

    You're right

I should've discarded Quincy jones as a credible source when he claimed mj didn't have vitiligo when the autopsy clearly showed he did

I thought that with music he wouldn't talk out of his neck though and you proved me wrong,

Aren't you doing the same as them by oversimplifiying Beatles history? Or are they really trend hoppers

Paul McCartney a bitter b**** though imo

Quincy jones said Beatles can't even tune guitars

yeah imo he is oversimplifying them a bit just my opinion though and i think i like the beatles a lot more than him

@Ithaka and I have basically opposite opinions on what I think is the beatles best album (White) and im sure we could argue back and forth about a ton of s*** about them

BB vs Beatles debates are always top notch

way better than whenever there's a mj prince debate or elton billy joel one

atleast the beatles debates make some sense and are somewhat legitimate

i feel like Quincy Jones was just having a lot of fun and trying to f*** with people saying crazy s*** (and some senility probably)

he said he saw Ray Charles have someone inject heroin into his testicles

i'm not well read enough in beatles lore and history to the point where i can discuss their early years to 1965, but from the docs and articles ive read over the years and on forums it seems that macca was pushing for the band to become more creative and diverse and stop being a basic popular band

    Yeaaaah
Seems like y'all's beef with the Beatles isn't music related but more so image related and how bbs should be remembered as fondly if not more than the Beatles....

Bbs deserve props & respect this is facts of life !!! My grandfather made sure I knew 🐐🐐🐐

Bbs legacy got f***ed by steering further and further into commercial oblivion along with Brian's mental state in the late 60s and well into the 70s. Outside of Sail on Sailor they never really got a commercial footing during that time and their critical legacy was tarnished. Then they regained attention with Mike Love's Kokomo and that was that.

The shame of it is that those late 60s through 70s albums were actually full of gems and didn't deserve the disdain they received. History has shined on them, thankfully, and with hindsight and a full version of Smile it's easier to appreciate their vision.

Paul McCartney's early solo years and the stuff with Wings is pretty similar that way. Critics HATED that s*** back in the day but now it's beginning to click how great and important it was to independent songwriters.

But, unlike the Beach Boys, he found his way back to commercial favor with Band on the Run and that turned things around. The solo Beatles (and the Traveling Wilburys) contributed positively to the mainstream legacy of the band and the band itself never fell off, so it's easy to lift the whole discography up on a pedestal rather than sort through everything the way Beach Boys fans cherish their favorite band. Critics will never do that.

Both amazing acts with a ton to offer, but one is a lot more visible and easier to sell than the other. History reveals the value of music that doesn't try to be perfect.

it ain’t hate i stated they’re great at their songwriting capacities and the styles they picked on over the years, i was just stating what i call actual genuis

it’s not like the beatles praise isn’t a given over the bbs, look at all the ktt2 thread drooling over the beatles on and on there’s nothing for the bbs outside this thread - this is what im saying

Being a musical genius doesn't help much with packaging music to be consumed

Some know how to do the latter better and the general public judged popstars on entertainment more than musical abilities anyways

there are plenty of talented singers/songwriters/musicians sitting in music conservatories/acamedies as we speak

Ie:prodigies who play beethhoven at age 7

But could they craft a hit song or a classic album ahead of its time? Are they marketable?

Alot goes into being a popstar especially one that is remembered fondly - I really think that being a genius isn't high on that list for the casual music listener...
