glad to be here
glad to be here
As always love to the king OP
@Ithaka
yeah im fully aware of that, mostly cuz I actually listen to 50s music. just more pointing out that talking about the general disadvantages and lack of recognition that black artists had throughout history isn't new to anyone in this thread and youre probably preaching to the choir here
also side note that Chuck D did later clarify that he was more dissing the racist society/lionization of Elvis as the king as a result of whiteness with that line and he does have respect for Elvis' art itself. maybe you already know this tho
I'm new here so I have never had that discussion
Show me the pages where it occurred if the debate already happened (I'm genuinely interested)
But it seems like y'all are being totally dismissive towards it which will turn of newcomers like me(especially if they already feel a way about that trend)
and yeah lol I knew of Chuck d's explanation of that line which proves my point further- the divided sentiment due to how society treats white vs black artists exists.

not sure if it ever happened in this thread (there's no debate to be had anyway), just if you know a lot about music of that era then you will know that whole story already. just personally not a conversation im interested in having and reading about again and again and again
again, if you cant show exactly what posts you think are totally dismissive turning off newcomers then idk. no one was dismissing the actual topic afaik just the fact that its completely off topic and dude that brought up rip offs was just trolling. and defending the beach boys themselves against claims of being blatant rip off artists doesn't mean anyone is discounting the fact that Surfin USA was a direct reference, and a bigger hit than Chuck Berry songs because they were white and more palatable to white audience. i just think you may have been misinterpreting if you took it as anyone dismissing the racism in society vs black artists
btw not really trying to argue or anything didnt mean for posts to be long
theres no disagreement
re listening to Holland now
