one of carls peak in terms of songwriting

the sound is crazy: listen to those synths arpeggios on the chorus !!! and at the end during the solo guitar, some proto techno s***!!! this was in 1971 !!!DECADES ahead of its times !!!!!!!!

did you know brian and bobby did a song together lol? it was scrapped, itโ€™s not the best stuff because it was done in the eighties, rough times for both artists, i like it tho itโ€™s innocent

    Bob Dylan:

Jesus, that ear. He should donate it to the Smithsonian. The records I used to listen to and still love, you can't make a record that sounds that way. Brian Wilson, he made all his records with four tracks, but you couldn't make his records if you had a hundred tracks today.

also i just found out about this bob dylans son jakob (known for wallflowers) singing a pet sounds song feat brian and neil young @Ground

NO WAY I HAD NO IDEA, LEOON gonna listen to this ASAP chief

i remember elton straight up did a song with a chorus about brian, carl sings on it

and, leon, well he was part of the wrecking crew so that goes without saying his history with the bbs but hereโ€™s something interesting, he wrote and arranged this for joe cocker:

is it me like am i trippin or the first four notes on the flute are directly taken from god only knows intro as an homage? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”

It's ok. I'm here now and glad to see how much love this thread is getting. Most of the time KTT gets it wrong about anything classic (shit, even musical), but this is one of the few times they got it right.

Didnt even know Brian had a wife back then

oh man yeah they got married very young and she stick with him til the late 70s i believe

she was originally singer in a girl band, brian started to produce for them

then she did this band american spring i believe iirc her sister is in it too, they actually recorded multiple bbs covers and deep album cuts that is, some sunflower stuff n s***

ANYWAY long story short brian one time wrote this song for them and imo, while we hold on to til i die as the last โ€œgreatโ€ brian song in some way, this which i believe is from 1972 is his lost diamond we are sleeping on, its so funny because itโ€™s SUCH a brian identifiably song, in every level, and itโ€™s cool because itโ€™s one of the rare one where in production we got to hear him play with the sounds that we going on in the 70s since this is a rare occasion as he would lock himself away

i believe he does some harmonies on it at the end? anyway, blows my mind the boys never had a shot at it, put this on one of the 70s bbs album with them singing and its a win

itโ€™s a perfect mix of trippy verses sound you would get on something like surfโ€™s up album but then you get a doowop classic chorus, one of my very favorite gem hidden away ๐Ÿ’Ž calling all the bbs gang to check this one out

real, thats on @Moody_mann opportunity will prolly never happen again what pisses me off is im sure, at least regarding frank ocean, it had to do with brians camp and what they judge what โ€œhe should be doing musically or associated withโ€ and not brian himself, instead they got him this s***ty singer from that one hit wonder capitol cities MF U THINK BRIAN GIVES A F*** ABOUT THAT CAPITOL SINGER

hereโ€™s to remember, at least this collab inspired what would be blonde

goat choky โ˜บ๏ธ i havnt got through much of the actual american spring just some songs, this one comes from this album, it has other songs by brian and a review says it is the sweetest produced brian album since sunflower so that sounds nice, thereโ€™s some sunflower covers on it

    en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spring_(American_Spring_album)

    cool artwork btw ๐Ÿง

i kinda like how his wife isnโ€™t an incredible singer, adds a lot of charm

That collaborated was good but I always felt like it left more to be desired. I didn't even know Janelle Monae was a fan of the beach boys, but I'm not surprised at all. Good taste from both sides.

hereโ€™s something crazy about that obscure sweet mountain song

you guys know of those latenighttales compilations? theyโ€™re compilations made by the uk label azuli records in which artists are invited to make their late night playlists

these are AMAZING to dig rare obscure music @MORPHE @cotton_dockers @Notmyfirst

anyway franz ferdinand did theirs in 2014 with a set of 20 songs

    and they included sweet mountain!!!!

it goes to show, even in those rock bands thereโ€™s big beach boys nerds diggin out the most obscure material
