fun fact friends is the first bb album that includes dennis wilson compositions, before he started to really shine through sunflower, and eventually make a solo album, his only one and a masterpiece at that, heartbreaking in hindsight:

this is in my personal fav song ever, the production is so ahead of its time but also, and not many know this, but it’s the only bb song where all the three wilson brothers shares a lead vocal

Dennis really is a goated songwriter came out SWINGING with Little Bird as his first original composition

I'll Bet He's Nice is SO beautiful, love the arrangement and the emotion in the leads on it are beautiful, it really sounded like the three brothers at one of their rawest points vocally, too good

he has many great material but this one is maybe my personal favorite, extremely slept on:

even fleetwood mac mf covered it

(they ofc have long history as dennis dated one of the fleetwood mac girl and even got her singing on his songs including one of them which is from that album angel come home is from, then fleetwood mac covered farmers daughter -of all things lol-)

Angel Come Home is so good, incredibly slept on, BBs albums post-Love You tend to get a bad rep but MIU, LA, KTSA, and Beach Boys '85 absoluteley had some gems

in a way love you is the pet sounds of the 70s: made exactly 10 years later, both entirely composed and produced by brian and almost done as solo projects (pet sounds has caroline, no released as a single under the name of brian wilson only, and love you has his wife doing lead vocals on it), both ahead of their times in production and very unique arrangements that aren’t found elsewhere, also misunderstood or at least weren’t hit records

yeah the 85 album even has a stevie wonder song he gave to them

ktsa i like sunshine somehow lol its just innocent u know? goin’ on def a stand out

hell even still cruisin’ era, you know the backstory of somewhere in japan? it’s super dark, beautiful song too

I've always considered Love You to be a sort of sequel/companion to Pet Sounds as well, but imo it feels even more "Brian" with him handling pretty much all of the songwriting, amazing project

it’s funny because there’s kinda of a pattern there with what i mentioned because then 10y later on he releases his first solo album, ofc it’s hurt by eugene and the dated prod but has outstanding gems i mean this one alone is a smile tier composition lol

Pitter Patter from MIU stays a highlight for me as well, also constantly taken aback at how good Brian's leads were on that album, sounded so close to classic Brian vocals

Somewhere In Japan's story is so dark, crazy slept on song

Son bringing up a stan war from half a century ago

BW88, despite it's flaws, is so nice Rio Grande, There's So Many, Walkin' The Line, and ofc Love And Mercy are such pretty cuts

Sweet Insanity and Wilson/Paley sessions (right after Brian was freed from all of the Landy s***) are also great stuff

Love and Mercy is amazing I remember at one of my lowest points I'd be walkin thru the school hallways listening to "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times"

That song and "Skyline To" by Frank should have the sine whistle credited as a vocalist tbh
