Yes. Yes I am. And I think my argument is so strong and persuasive that by the time you get done reading this youāll agree with me. So if youāll bear with me I will lay out my case using the Beach Boysā 1969 album 20/20, a case that is so tight and irrefutable that even Perry Mason could make no better argument against it than to cower in the corner weeping upon hearing it. Your honor, letās examine the evidence.
CHARLES MANSON CRASHED THE SERVERS ONCE I HIT NEVER LEARN NOT TO LOVE
the beach Boys really out here singing about Louisiana cotton fields
its an ancient field song with like 6000 renditions out there
anyway as i meant to send before manson crashed the servers
According to biographer Peter Ames Carlin, Manson penned "Cease to Exist" specifically for the Beach Boys to record,12 and biographer Steven Gaines said that Manson "reportedly" wrote the song to help ease tensions within the group. Bandmember Mike Love recalled that he was not aware of the song's author, and assumed that Dennis had written it.
In exchange for the publishing rights to "Cease to Exist", Manson received a sum of cash and a BSA motorcycle which he later gave to Family member "Little" Paul Watkins. In 1971, when asked why he did not credit Manson, Wilson answered: "He didn't want that. He wanted money instead. I gave him about a hundred thousand dollars' worth of stuff."
When Wilson acquired the song from Manson, for the most part, he abided Manson's original specifications. However, in an attempt to better accommodate the group's vocal harmonies, Wilson reworked the song's bluesy structure and added another bridge. In addition, "Cease to Exist"'s lyrics were partially altered (the opening lyric "Cease to exist" modified to "Cease to resist"), and the title of the song was changed to "Never Learn Not to Love", much to Manson's indignation.
Manson threatened Wilson with murder for changing the lyrics. Beach Boys collaborator Van Dyke Parks recalled "One day, Charles Manson brought a bullet out and showed it to Dennis, who asked, 'What's this?' And Manson replied, 'It's a bullet. Every time you look at it, I want you to think how nice it is your kids are still safe'". Wilson confronted Manson about the incident, realizing Manson's growing erratic behavior, and ended their friendship soon after.
Exhibit A: āNever Learn Not to Loveā. Never mind just rock bands in 1969, you name me one other rock band in any year ever that had a song co-written with a notorious serial killer and cult leader. Because āNever Learn Not to Loveā was co-written by none other than one Charles Milles Manson, a man who needs no introduction from me, but if you know anything about him, you know he and his followers were some of the most depraved people to be found in sunny Southern California at the time ā and Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson hung out with them a lot for a while, because, hey, they had d**** and young girls, and thatās all he needed to decide someone was A-OK. Those supposed bad boys of rock at the time, The Rolling Stones, never co-wrote a song with a murderous lunatic cult leader ā those spineless wannabes just toured America singing about taking advantage of underage girls and acting surprised when the murderous biker gangs they hired as concert security actually murdered somebody. The Rolling Stones werenāt bad boys, they were a bunch of callow weak-kneed Boy Scout infants next to Dennis Wilson. āOooh, Iām so edgy, I hang out with Kenneth Angerā. Whatever Mick.

think it makes for a d***gy af album but thatās why i love it and find it underrated sure itās incoherent bc of its nature of track selection but to me that makes it sound even more 1969

I can feel this and I really feel what you mean itās a very 60s sounding album and full of so many amazing instruments and vocals that really reflect you back to the 60s.

!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akXU5n6AR1Iyeah ngl love the bbs cover over it
itās just one of those rare bbs recordings that sounds nothing like the bbs and because how rocking it is yet catchy and upbeat it makes it very modern and accessible- i feel lot of new comers would dig it if they were presented to this first, altho that would be misdirecting knowing nothing of the rest of the catalogue comes close (well you get some rocking dennis songs but i mean as a whole album)
