wait what vocal edit do you mean
so carl is on all the verses but apparently he was too young to hit the same falsetto notes as brian yet? something to that effect or couldnât land it as well i assume so brian edited his vocals to do those, itâs very short just one words - on the first prechorus of the song:
iiiiiiiiii hear the sound of a gentle word
the iiiiiii hear the sound is brian while the rest of it is carl
same on the second prechorus:
wheeeeen I look in her eyes
the wheeeen i look is brian edited in
when youâre familiar to brians easy to pick on falsetto itâs so noticeable as soon as itâs pointed
amazing mixing really
Diamond head giving me SpongeBob vibes
LOVE that song the most underrated bbs instrumental piece gives me hawaiian vibes đș

wow now that you mention it that part always has sounded like brian to me but i never really noticed. is carls voice also going on at the same time for that iiiii/wheeeen part, or is it just brian then switches completely to just carl?
do you have some source where i can read about it? its kinda hard to google

im trying to pick the voices apart, does Carl pick up to sing "gentle"? thats where its sounding like it switches to me. feel like its harder to tell on the 2nd prechorus tho
^ whenever youre off work later

listen to hawaii to train your ears and go back to it - brians falsetto is one in a million, very distinguished to pick out
the first prechorus carl definitely hits right back on âgentle wordâ
second he comes back on âin her eyesâ
im tryna think at top of my head where i picked at but itâs not something thatâs itâs commonly spread, iirc i found out through my heavy intense smile documentation and talking to insiders and engineers etc but ill look up later yeah

nah thatâs just an instrumental take of the bridge the one im thinking of itâs the song with the extra longe bridge and the âpooomdilaaa pommdila ooohoooâ vocals đș
so tropical
listen to hawaii then this then diamond head you got a plane trip to hawaii soundtrack there
also this is gonna sound odd bc ive been rocking the bbs for so many years now but today relistening shortly to good vibrations verses at work (in the context of that environment and not comfort of home or car ride) to check on the brian/carl voices edit just dawn on me what a revolutionary record it legit is
like itâs so easy for anyone and especially newcomers as they get younger and more exposed to how colorful and experimental music gets in productions like weâre almost unphased today weâve seen and heard it all but like man are those verse soooooo... so special like itâs the sound of color palette itâs like i canât put words but it takes you away on an island of emotions RIGHT OFF THE BAT from brians genuis melodic driving bassline played by carole kaye, the organ and brians melodies sung by carl, itâs like a match made in trippy heaven that canât be recreated in other circumstances
like idk for a minute i felt the impression it mustâve felt back then to hear this new sonically sound for first time in an era of where rest of music is so different and more folky and youre caught off guard

i swear on my life I SWEAR i read the thread and was repeeping good vibrations to hear the edit and see if i could detect ANY cut/splicing and as i was listening i couldn't help but hit the
the way the atmosphere shifts from verse to hook to instrumental to bridge back to hook is unparalleled and then ON TOP of all that, the choices in musical intervals, the bassline that opens the verses is relatively high, somewhat melodic and far more similar to what a synth or guitar might play but then it drops straight into this blues bassline that u could find on an old jazz record or any blues songs from the 50s
someone took the gv sessions lost footage that miraculously surfaced after 50y and almost forever gone by being thrown in the trash and added colors to it itâs amazing
one of those true lighting in a bottle moments that will and could never be topped by them or by someone else and they don't happen often

this song enbodies so much that era and the peak of creativity you can see why paul was floored by brians bass work (and i love paul basslines) the whole song really is a pocket symphony no kizzy thereâs so much in it and yet thatâs if you take the single version we have and not the smile with that extra godly bridge
song really amazes me today more than ever when sometimes you take it for granted and thatâs sad
what an outstanding piece of artwork
and that theremin mimick on the chorus this has everything mannn itâs so layered and textured yet doesnât give any headaches you know it keeps music with hooks catchy and simple short and thatâs to me the everest of music making, the balance of something rich intelligent yet so fun and earwormy which is something many misses - lot of them inspired falls on the too pretentious act of it
i know this sounds funny and ironic but as soon as the song starts itâs so refreshing it really sounds like the poetry of the sound of a wave just stellar inimitable work ethic and quality that canât be matched i really felt like art garfunkel when he first heard it and was like stop the car!
also props to mike love too (i know) because that bass vocals on the chorus isnât easy to pull off
