Just got into the Beatles a couple weeks ago
I used to think they were overrated because all I knew about them was Lucy and Yellow Submarine
Damn they got some f***ing bangers
Holy s*** first time hearing this in years and I’m losing my mind
It was probably only like a year actually but it still hit me crazy
The Beatles in Mono is a revelation
I ended up going through every song and doing a stereo and mon comparison on headphones and on speakers to decide which one I was going to keep as my canon
For these guys, Kinks and Small Faces. Crazy how much of a difference it could make in those years.

Right? If only Abbey Road and Yellow Submarine were mixed in mono

Abbey Road og mix is fine as is to me.
Basically everything pre-rubber soul is easily mono for me
Rubber Soul - I'd go OG Mono mix here. quality holds up for the most part.
Revolver - 2022 Mix, OG Mono mix is just a bit too cluttered and looses some much needed quality for how heavy the mix is.
Sgt Peppers - 2017 Mix, Hot take but both original stereo and mono mixes do not hold up at all. Audio quality is ass in stereo and even worse when trying to compress it all in Mono. I'll take a mix that focuses on Bass a bit too much over the og cluster f***s.
White Album - OG Stereo, Think the og stereo, mono and remix all have there moments but if im just doing a straight listen through i'd go with the OG, Although I will say I think Johns songs were treated with more care in the 2018 remix and really shine through like they never did before.
Abbey Road - OG Stereo, Remix was pointless and not nearly as good.
Let It Be - Naked Version, hate the added production on the og release. just have it as it was recorded imo.
Made from a tape mistakenly sent to Germany by EMI UK. According to Steve Hoffman, the tape is a 1st generation mixdown from the 2-track master (not a copy), and has not been used anywhere else except in Germany. It first appeared on the second pressing of Die Beatles and the same metal parts were reused in 1969 and 1977. According to many, it’s supposed to be the best sounding stereo version of this album, apparently lacking the compression and EQ added to the UK tape. I don’t know about the compression (to me it sounds the same) but this is indeed a most transparent and detailed version, even if a bit bass-shy. Needledrop by Crispi.
Another happy accident. The original stereo mixes of Rubber Soul and Help! found their way on to the first run of pressings for Disque Amerique in Canada and were swiftly recalled and replaced with the dreaded George Martin remix. George mentioned he heard these masters which he said were flat copies and thought the 65 mix was too woolly and remixed it in an 80s style mix with digital reverb. I disagree.
My favourite of the recent mixes, I wish their previous attempts were this good. However, the mastering is not quite there for me and so I EQ-Matched the 2022 mix towards my previous go-to, the Japanese Red Wax Mono.
I haven't compared other pressings of this album although I'm confident as it was recommended by a fellow music nerd who writes "I found I preferred many of the original Beatles CDs to the remasters, especially for the later-period albums. They have a more rock-&-roll, more visceral and rawer sound. Mastered by Mike Jarrett."
I keep hold of a mono and a stereo for this album depending on the mood and what I'm listening to it via. I'm not a fan of the 2017 mix, these aren't perfect either (in terms of mixing) but I prefer them. The audio quality is very high on the legendary Audio5 vinyl rips done by pbthal as well as Dr. Robert, here's a little write up about it...
"This exclusive Audiophile record came into existence following a decision by EMI Australia to try their hand at half-speed mastering for a reissue series. In January 1981 they took their existing 15-ips masters for Please Please Me and Sgt. Pepper's and brought them down to 7.5-ips and cut lacquers for each title. After checking for quality these were rejected. Please Please Me was abandoned in favour of concentrating on Sgt. Pepper's so a new master was supplied by EMI UK and they set to work again.
In April 1982 the first serious cut was created, with Side 2 being successful. Side 1 was more problematic and it wasn't until the third recut, which took 8 hours to cut just 40 minutes of music, that produced a result with which they were satisfied. This is known as the -3 cut and was used to create the final finished disc.
This LP never went on sale in regular record stores, but was made exclusively available to the public at the Sydney Hi-Fi And Audio Show on July 3rd 1983. Just 497 numbered copies were released with unique label artwork, mirroring the black and silver one EMI box Parlophone labels of 1969, and housed inside a single pocket picture cover with AUDIOPHILE designated on the back. Each LP had an individually numbered sticker fixed to the top right corner of the back cover. This is a very low numbered copy, 004. The release also carries the unique catalogue number AUDIO-5."
Original stereo mixes, the CD is very close to the UK White Vinyl which I use pbthal's 2012 needledrop. I Could never delete one or the other, the CD appears to be possibly a tiny bit veiled compared to the vinyl, the vinyl is isn't very transparent during the very quiet moments due to it's nature of course.

from the blu-ray, blu-rays tend to have squashed mastering although I haven't checked to see if that's the case with this album.

The White Album on vinyl hits different @Sir_Swagalot

what number you got?
jealous
the best album I still dont have on vinyl yet
I found it at a massive record warehouse about an hour away from me. Cover is more beat up than the record.
I can't imagine the reaction to this album when it came out. Each song is wildly different and there's 30 of them
the only people doing double albums at this time were Zappa and Dylan, and the Fab 4 had way more casual listener appeal than either of them

Yeah and they weren't pulling off nearly the same level of diversity where each song was its own entirely different type of production either. Tied up with Basement Tapes as my desert island disc.
Did you know Village Green Preservation Society came out the same day
one of the albums few rivals
Astral Weeks a week later
also one of its few rivals ever

poor Kinks, no wonder that album didn't sell s***
@Elric Side 3 is funny because Paul wrote Mother Nature's Son and Helter Skelter
duality of man on full display
